I am very fond of stories by Alice Munro, but I regard many other writers very well, such as William Trevor and Natalia Ginzburg, though right this minute I am not sure if her first name is Natalia.

Not really, although I often have to; I tend to do things that are quick and easy.

Yes, I like to cook, it is fun for me, but then it has never been a chore expected of me by a hungry family getting restless while I hurried up.

No, actually I am terrified of flying although I do it a lot; it is getting better with age, I think it was being responsible for my family that made me scared.

Well, I like a lot of kinds of art, but everything within a category. For example, I am quite keen on painting, but am more interested in some types of painting than others, and within those types, like some painters more than others. Then, within a painter's body of work, I will appreciate some pieces more than others. In the case of abstract expressionism, I like deKooning more than Pollack; among impressionists, I like Manet more than Monet. I could go on and on, and that is just about painting...

What kind of art are you most interested in?

well, you know, I just like what I like; I find Monet's light very appealing, likewise Rembrandt - tend not to enjoy the more modern, though dadaists appeal by their very silliness. I my home I have a lot of Asian art, Chinese, Balinese and Indian paintings.
