I would make sure that noone put anything in your drink or took undue advantage of you. I would make it my personal duty for the night or day depending on when we all planned to meet.

Notice of what? (I'm just a simple, straightforward girl Spendi - spell it out for me).

It's all there on the record for anyone with more than a slight whimsical fancy.

What makes you think I believe your assertion that you are a simple, straightforward girl?

Spendius - I like you so much better when you're not all cryptic. I'll put it as simply and straightforwardly as I can. I would like for us all to be friends. That could be accomplished more easily if we all met in person.

Don't you think that would be fun to do?

It depends on what you mean by fun.

What have you got in mind?

Fun - I don't know - I always try to have fun - life's too short to do anything else. You know -we could just all meet for a nice meal - you could have your ale or beer or whatever it is you like to have at the pub - I could have some wine - we could all just sit around and socialize- and then take it from there.
No big plan - we could just be spontaneous.

How do you have fun?

The first thing is not trying to have it.Going with the flow so to speak.

Do you know what I mean?

Yes definitely. Fun creates itself if it is given the right "soil" in which to grow. I think this gathering has the potential to yield a great harvest of fun.

Do you?

That can be said of anything. There is always potential. It is simply a matter of statistical probability.

What's the potential for dolour?

None (if I'm correct in assuming that dolour means boredom). Well I guess it would depend. If you arrive somewhere in a good mood - it usually turns out fun - if you don't - oh lord, it can be dolorous.

What kind of mood do you think you might arrive in?

Listen kiddo-England are 43 for 3 after 16 overs and I've backed the Aussies at 5to4 so I'm trying to do two things at once.

How do I know what kind of mood I might arrive in when I might not even arrive and I might have broken down on the motorway on the way or you lot might look like my Auntie Nelly and all start grabbing hold of me like she used to do.Sheesh aidy that's a real daft question.Anyway-I thought Mathos was your man of choice.

Why don't you ask him about all this?

Very Happy Very Happy I don't look like Auntie Nelly - but if I did - what would it matter. I thought you liked my nice, straightforward personality?

Mathos is never around anymore - and when he is - he never talks to me. He chooses to spend his time in the company of other young ladies. Oh well.

Do you need a lift if you decided to come to our little get together. Would you like me to see if that can be arranged?

No,no,no.There's no need to arrange any lifts.I am quite capable of finding my way into the most out of the way places even in the dark.

Do you like arranging things?

Sometimes. By the way - you are too, too funny(ie, your addition to the sentence thread). I think we would find it fun to laugh together.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to actually hear it?

*I do want to thank you for the many, many laughs you've provided me.

anyway , lighten up, so we hate each other on sight and have a wasted journey - so what? All part of life's rich tapestry. And mathos is welcome too, this isn't a date for god's sake

Maybe.I might start lecturing you about your bad habits.

(Solanki's out-6 to go)Looking good.

I thought you wanted to immerse yourself into the English way of life and thus justify your intuition. So why are you not watching the cricket?

I consider my time not to be wasted if I meet people who may be interesting and will certainly be new. What constitutes a waste of time for you?

Yes, totally. At last we agree on something.

Interesting that you don't consider going to the pub and watching cricket such a waste of time as meeting like-minded people, isn't it?

I meet like minded people everywhere I go.In the pub we talk about cricket and football and female depth psychology and how to run the country in a kaliedescope of wit, banter, facts, fiction, lies, and put downs and anything else.I don't know if I would be meeting like-minded people at the meet being proposed.I suspect I wouldn't be.You have to grow into like-minded people over years and it's getting harder to do.One watches sport partly in order to be qualified to meet like-minded people but also because the game is a work of art and in the case of cricket maybe the world's finest work of art.It is therefore not a waste of time to those who take that view and I am one.

And,let it not be forgotten, they sell tasty drinks containing the magic substance that Mr Brown gets a lot of his money from to do all the good works he says he does. Our contributions to those are vastly in excess of all the charity collections.

How does an idea that watching cricket and going to the pub is a waste of time get into anybody's head?
