It's only shortly after lunch here, but maybe Friday night
is a date night in Europe.

Is it?

Not really Cal.It is busier than other nights due to cultural lag because it has been traditionally pay night and also because there's a general relief that the week's burdens can be ignored for a few short hours.A sort of mini-festival.

The general tone is sport but there are occasional sorties into preventing colleagues from having nervous breakdowns due to factors too obvious to mention and also wives often disport their wares pointlessly on Fridays but I don't understand the reason for that. They don't date.

Do you think they'd like to?

Hm, they might, spendius. If it is true how you portrayed it,
their life is rather depressing, isn't it? Any change from the
ordinary would be a welcome event.

Here in southern California, it is a date night and the young
people are out in force on Friday night. I think it is kind of
cute to watch them from the outside. I wouldn't want to
be involved myself though.

So most people are paid every Friday in your neck of the woods?

No, dahlink... we are paid either fortnightly or twice monthly (not to be confused with bi-monthly, which can be twice monthly or every two months!!)...

How ARE you?

I am just perfect - the full weekend still ahead and hopefully
there is a lot of R&R in it too, aside from chauffeuring my
daughter to her soccer game.

Any weekend plans?

Well, Friday is the beginning of my weekend because I only work M-Th. but hubby came home dead drunk (very unusual) after a colleague's 'whatever' social and is now puking it up in the bathroom every so often... nothing I can do to help, so I'm enjoying my Chardonnay, don't you know Smile ha ha

what are you doing?

Well, right now I will sign off in a few minutes. I have family
visiting from Europe and they're waiting for me to play Monopoly
with them. Poor souls, they don't know yet, that I'm the money
whizz Laughing

I hope your husbands feels better soon. Any good remedies
for hangover?

Maybe.

We could discuss whether Cal is being entirely truthful with-

Couldn't we?

Why yes, why not. I am mostly truthful in my statements,
or I abstain alltogether if I feel compromised.

Which part of my statement do you think is not true, spendius?

That you wouldn't want to be involved yourself. There must be millions of things you wouldn't want to be involved in.

Why pick out the Friday night scrum?

I don't date, spendius, not that I ever did actually.
Yes, there are a few things I wouldn't want to be involved in,
and a Friday night scrum would be one of it, as well as
going to the pub every day.

Who would enjoy going to a pub every day?

You might enjoy the freedom sensation which a $10 dose of alcohol produces.(£6-7)

You might enjoy being leered at by men in that state.

You might simply benefit from a radical change of scene.

You might meet that special person on one of the nights who changes your life.

You might have your errors of thought corrected by contact with forceful challengers. It is well known that confining oneself to a small circle limits intellectual growth.

You might make business contacts of great benefit.

You might acquire a more detailed picture of the social activity within your neighbourhood.

You might enjoy yourself.

You might improve your sociability and dress sense.

You might gain in self-confidence.

Why would I enjoy staying in every night?

Because, spendius, I have all the above at home, except I don't enjoy being around drunken men, and business contacts are gathered someplace more appropriate.

All the points you have listed here reflect your own agenda,
and if you should need this kind of reassurance from the
outside world, so be it. I surpassed this phase in my early 20's
already.

Do you really think you can gain self-confidence in a pub?

For sure.

Reassurance from the inner world is known as solipsism.I like to have my views challenged and battled over in case I get too self congratulatory. It's a bit like The House of Commons is a pub.

In a pub one also learns about other people's difficulties and one becomes more tolerant.

I also like the bright lights,the glitz,the girls,the music,the movement--the life.

I consider pubs the last bastion of freedom. That's why they are banned in Islamic countries.

It's great at home as well but not all the time.

Feminists do so hate pubs don't they?
