There were two kinds of 'Pong' games:
-one was the straight up 'tennis' played across the screen
-yeah, there was one like it with a single paddle that bounced the ball up to delete blocks, but I don't think it was called 'Pong'

I'll check with some fellow oldies....

I remember when pong first appeared. Everyone thought this was unbelievable-that we had just entered the 21st century. I always wondered what the big deal was! Of course, we're just a bunch of dumb old Okies!

THE FIRST GAME I EVER PLAYED WAS MARIO
BROTHERS AND DUCK HUNT ON THE OLD
NINTENDO MACHINE . OH, THE HOURS I SPENT
DAY AFTER DAY TRYING TO GET TO THE END OF
MARIO BROTHERS. AFTER WORK, I WOULD COME
HOME, EAT, AND GO RIGHT TO MY GAME, AND I
DID EVENTUALLY GET TO THE END.
ACTUALLY I STILL HAVE THAT OLD MACHINE
AND IT STILL WORKS. WHEN COMPARED TO
MY PS2 - I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT MY PS2 WILL
STILL BE AROUND NEARLY AS LONG AS THAT
OLD NINTENDO HAS. I WAS PRETTY GOOD AT
DUCK HUNT.
NOW I AM PLAYING CRASH BANDICOOT,
THE WRATH OF CORTEX AND MY GRANDSON
(NOT THE 6 YEAR OLD, THIS IS ONLY THE 4
YEAR OLD) IS BEATING THE PANTS OFF ME.
HE CAN GET WAY WAY WAY FARTHER THAN
ME. DARN IT.

I remember Pong, Pacman and one with clowns on a seesaw. I was terrible at the seesaw game and renamed it "Clown Splat"

Pong, then Space Invaders...at the arcade, I liked Qix, Q-bert and Joust, heh. Got Intellivision later, but don't remember too many of the games. When we got the first version Nintendo, I got addicted to the Ultima games...been a big RPG fan ever since. Here is another cool link for nostalgic games:

My brother scooped out a bunch of the games here and burnded 'em on a CD for Christmas. (He's got a fast connection... faster than mine.)

These are the real thing. So real that they are, in fact, illegal. So don't download the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator, and don't download the Eprom memory for the original arcade machines...

Finally got back to this thread. cjhsa: did you say Tommy's? In Harvard Square? Yeah, I dropped a lot of quarters into the pinball machines. A good day at pinball. Pay for one game... win... three hours later quit, because the arms are tired, with credits left on the machine.

Pong was the first one I ever played. My favorite from that era was called "Make Trax" (or was it tracks?). You controlled a paintbrush, and your goal was to paint a house while different animals went running through and messing things up. The missus and I used to love to play it together, before kids.

First one I ever played was on Win 95. A game where you would hide behind blocks and shoot monsters of ascending order (in a spaceship). It looked something like this

* * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * *
* * * * * * * * * *
_ _ _ _ _
V

* = monster
_ = rock to hide that gradually gets destroyed
V = spaceship

If anyone has Phoenix on his TI-83+, it's something like that, only a lot more simple Very Happy

Just how old are you guys ? I wasn't even born when Pong appeared, and I never saw an Atari in my whole life.
The first game I ever played was some kind of card game, on an old Macintosh.
The BEST game I ever played, though, was FF7.
