Thanks, checked it on wiki and it's interesting indeed as a sort of link between the two languages.
I like the fact that some in Val d'Aoste still use "goupil" for "fox"... "Renard", as you may know, was once a first name (from German Reinhardt=strong counsel). Its use in the medieval Roman de Renard as the name of the fox character led to its current meaning and the disapearance of goupil (which was similar to Italian: volpe).
