Well you're half right - it never has. Doesn't mean you didn't elect an amoral corrupt fuckwit narcissist, but you are right.
If it's any consolation a few times in Australian elections the party (we don't elect presidents) with the fewest votes has won the majority of seats, and not because of any gerrymandering, just targeted electioneering.
The question remains though - is that democracy?
