What is the big surprise? Truman had them figured out in 1948.

Harry Truman (1948):
Well, I have been studying the Republican Party for over 12 years at close hand in the Capital of the United States. And by this time, I have discovered where the Republicans stand on most of the major issues. Since they won't tell you themselves, I am going to tell you. They approve of the American farmer--but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor a minimum wage--the smaller the minimum the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them... They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off.... They condemn "cruelly high prices"--but fight to the death every effort to bring them down. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.

Here are a couple more...

The Republican Party either corrupts its liberals or it expels them.

Socialism is a scareword they have hurled at every advance the people have made in the last 20 years. Socialism is what they called public power. Socialism is what they called social security. Socialism is what they called farm price supports. Socialism is what they called bank deposit insurance. Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations. Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

HARRY S. TRUMAN, speech, Oct. 10, 1952

Republicans don't like people to talk about depressions. You can hardly blame them for that. You remember the old saying: Don't talk about rope in the house where somebody has been hanged.

@TheCobbler,
More shift and jive from the left. Hillary as Sec of State vs the NRA and influence peddling? You guys are desperate to make her look good.

Do you have a problem with foreign companies in the tech industry having access to politicians? That is what is comparable, not access to the Sec of State for political favors from foreign powers.

As a matter of fact, if a politician is looking out for the interests of a foreign company I'm not so sure I'm that happy. I thought these people were supposed to be looking out for the interests of the people of the US.

Who said they were looking out for the interests of those companies? Producing tech in foreign markets and then moving them here for sale can be daunting. There are many foreign tech companies that sell their products here; Samsung, Sony and LG to name a few. Do they not have the right to sell their products here in the US and in the process to make sure there are no undue burdens on the import of their products and equal access to US markets?

The NRA works with foreign gun producers for the same reasons. If the extreme left gets their wish and bans guns in the US, do those companies not face problems with their companies?

To be exact they look out for the interests of their voters and constituents. We have addressed this before and it comes down to the politician doing what the people who elected them want them to do. If the people of a voting district want access to legal guns, then that politician should be doing what their people want and working on access to legal guns. So they are indeed looking out for the people of the US.

As a matter of fact, that does sound rather shady. If the US decides that foreign products should have a tariff placed on them to help a domestic manufacturer, that is for the USA to decide, not the foreign company. Frankly, you sound like you're trying to justify foreign companies keeping Congressmen "in their pocket".

@Blickers,
Haven't we been told that protectionism is a bad thing? Tariff's are evil and only hurt the American economy?

I'm sure that's the way you read it but in reality would you want to pay over $1000 for the new Samsung phone? How about $2000? Place tariff's on foreign products and that is what will happen.

@Baldimo,
Not the point. The issue of tariffs vs free trade should be hashed out among the American electorate, not by foreign firms buying off Congressmen to pass laws for the foreign firms' benefit.

Baldimo has no problem with having sex with black women and foreign sugar daddies for the republican NRA.

No conflict of interest there. (cynical)
