‘Not about bathrooms’: Critics decry North Carolina law’s lesser-known elements
Source: Washington Post

DURHAM, N.C. — In this state where the modern bathroom wars began, some church and civil rights leaders have begun to spread the word that there’s plenty else to worry about in the controversial new law known formally as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act.

The law not only reverses a Charlotte ordinance that had extended some rights to gay and transgender people. It also prevents city and county governments from setting a minimum-wage standard for private employers and limits how people can sue for discrimination in state court. And it contains a provision allowing for remaining parts of the law to stand if others are struck down in court.

Those provisions, opponents say, are pernicious attempts to roll back rights, and they have been tucked into a bill that has a very different public face.

“This is really a devious bill that harms workers under the guise of regulating bathrooms,” said Harold Lloyd, a professor at Wake Forest University School of Law.

@bobsal u1553115,
Now that is a perfect illustration of what I always thought was corporate welfare or to use a new term I read recently, corporate socialism. Why does Boeing need $15 billion (I can't even get my mind around that much money) in subsides? Why do we as a nation need to subside Boeing? I have heard and read the name, but I don't really know what the corporation does.

Looked it up, of course, now I know why we are interested in keeping that corporation afloat. Seems to me, the profits should be great enough it does not any subsides.

Smashed out window on Hillary supporter's car.

Now whose followers do you think might have done this?

Goes along with my anti-Bernie posts being voted down. (How dare one criticize the emperor with no delegates.)

Vitriol and violence, Bernie thugs only diminish their progressive ideas.

I don't think I have ever voted a pro Bernie post down. I don't plan to either, it is not worth the effort. I will vote Hillary up in November.

@TheCobbler,
And they are soooo darn holier than thou. I just read another post from Debra Law going on about the "evil" that they are "protesting" by refusing to support Hillary. That wouldn't be so hard to stomach, but she and other, more unhinged compatriots can't seem to resist making everyone who supports Hillary into some kind of ignorant drones whose motives and reasoning for not supporting Bernie are all just ****

I respect what Bernie has accomplished by shining a light on the true progressive agenda, and I believe he and his forces can continue to be a powerful influence. And I think there are a lot ot those in Bernie's camp now who will make a sane pivot to Hillary when the choice is starkly Hillary or Trump.

But I think the "Never Hillary" crowd has some serious growing up to do.

@snood,
I totally agree Snood.

Bernie has done some good for the party.

But...
Bernie seems, like Trump, to enjoy the violence... this makes him unfit for any office.

And I don't think that by his followers calling a very popular California senator (Barbara Boxer) a "bitch" will get them any votes either.

@TheCobbler,
Yeah, when I watch Bernie's rallies, I can't help but notice that he never tries to quell the unruly boos or jeers about Hillary - the way Obama would do when the crowds would boo and he would say "No, don't boo - just vote".
He hears the unrest and anger, and he's not stupid so it's not like he doesn't understand that by not discouraging it, he's encouraging it.

I've said a dozen times and I'll say it again:
While it's true that Bernie has been a force for good in American politics, it's useful to remember that he is also an old man who's gotten a taste of adulation and fame and likes it, and is being influenced by that, arguably as much as any desire to change for the better the lives of Americans.

@snood,
It is Biblical thought.

The church of Jesus' day accused Jesus of using princes of devils to cast out small minions of devils (rather than using God).

Like using a republican stooge (Rove) to fix our economy is like using devils instead of God...

@snood,
back in January/February there was a whole thing about Rove's organization and ads against Mrs. Clinton

http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-01-19/republican-operatives-are-trying-to-help-bernie-sanders

Quote:
Meanwhile, American Crossroads, a group co-founded by Karl Rove, is airing an ad in Iowa bolstering a core tenet of Sanders’s case against Clinton: that she has received large sums of campaign contributions from Wall Street, and therefore can't be trusted to crack down on big banks. “Hillary rewarded Wall Street with a $700 billion bailout, then Wall Street made her a multi-millionaire,” a narrator in the ad says. “Does Iowa really want Wall Street in the White House?”

nothing new

just continually weird (the sort of samesidedness of Rove and Mr. Sanders)

@snood,
Bernie's campaign manger's wife is Rove's cousin...

Coincidence? NOT LIKELY.

There is something rotten in the state of Vermont.
