GOP State Senator Calls Women ‘a Lesser Cut of Meat’

South Carolina State Senator Tom Corbin is known for making stupid and offensive remarks as well as introducing outrageous legislation.
In 2013 Corbin, a Republican from Travelers Rest, S.C. introduced a bill which would have “exempted” members of an unorganized militia from any federal gun control laws. The bill was based on a state law from 1881 dealing with the make-up of a state militia and would have applied to anyone over the age of 17 who could legally buy a weapon.
In 2013 while attacking Common Core standards Corbin related to fellow members of the S.C. Senate Republican Caucus a story of a teacher in his hometown of Greenville, S.C. who he claimed had told her students a shockingly graphic story of a tribe in Africa.
“He said the teacher told her class about tribesmen in Africa who had to suck their elders’ dicks,” an unnamed source who had attended the meeting told FITS news, a libertarian leaning blog.
The source later corrected himself and said that the story actually referred to tribes in Papau New Guinea where the young men fellate tribal elders swallowing the semen to increase virility. No one has been able to identify the teacher or school where the alleged lesson took place.
He reportedly asked Senator Katrina Shealy, the only woman in the 46 member Senate, to leave the room before he told his story saying that it was the gentlemanly thing to do, however Shealy refused to leave saying that he should not be telling the other members anything that he could not tell her.
In his latest foray into misogyny the Senator apparently was addressing his remarks toward Shealy at a legislative dinner in Columbia, S.C. where members of the Senate Judiciary committee were discussing a criminal domestic violence (CDV) bill. Several attendees told FITS that Corbin began to needle Shealy with crude remarks.
“I see it only took me two years to get you wearing shoes,” Corbin said to Shealy, apparently in references he made at the time of her election in 2012 when he commented that women should “be at home baking cookies” or “barefoot and pregnant” and not in the state Senate.
Not surprisingly, Shealy took offense at Corbins remarks and reportedly asked him if he “got off” on attacking women.
“Well, you know God created man first,” the smug Corbin replied. “Then he took the rib out of man to make woman. And you know, a rib is a lesser cut of meat.”
“He’s just needling her – he don’t mean nothing by it,” said a source close to Corbin, going on to insist that it was all part of a running joke between the two lawmakers.
Other sources who were in attendance said that if it was a joke Shealy did not seem to be in on it and that Corbin did not seem to be joking. One lobbyist who attended said that he thought at one point that they were going to have to pull Shealy off Corbin.
