I agree. There should be a law that if you resist arrest it is a mandatory 5 years in prison

Sorry can not agree with that idea as that charge had been used too many times without justification by police officers and we already have a higher percent of our total citizens behind bars then any other major nation on earth.

With five percents of the world population we have 25 percents of the world population behind bars.

If long prison sentences was a solution we would be the most crime free nation on earth.

Seattle Police Department Hosts Contest Looking for Hackers Who Can Doctor Officers' Dash Cam Videos
Source: Alternet

December 24, 2014 | One of the reforms being promoted to reduce police brutality is greater use of mandatory cameras by police units to ensure that excessive force isn't used. Dashboard and body cameras can also, purportedly, protect police officers from false accusations.

The Seattle Police Department has a dashboard camera system in place, but says it can't allow the public to view the footage out of privacy concerns. In order to share the recordings with the public, it has to blur faces and distort voices.

As a result, the SPD is hosting a contest looking for “a few good hackers” to step up and redact its videos so it can release the 314,636 hours of videos it's captured over the past five years.

@BillRM,
Shocked. Absolutely shocked. Are you sure you didn't leave out a negative, or are you being sarcastic? Shocked.

I agree with you.

I feel dirty and used.

Hierarchy of Violence: A system of oppression in which those with power, existing above those without, enact and enforce a monopoly of violence upon those lower on the hierarchy. Violence done by those higher on the hierarchy to those lower is normal and is accepted as the order of things. When violence is attempted by those lower on the hierarchy upon those higher, it is met with swift and brutal repression.

December 15th, after the killings of Officers Liu and Ramos of the NYPD, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted “When police officers are murdered, it tears at the foundation of our society. This heinous attack was an attack on our entire city.” On July 18th, the day after Eric Garner, a longtime New Yorker and father of six, was choked to death by NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, the mayor of of the Big Apple had only this to say: “On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest condolences to the family of Eric Garner.”

In his condolences there was no mention of a “heinous attack” against the actual people of New York City. There was no mention of the “tearing at the foundation of our society” either. Still further, in the case for the police officers, de Blasio went as far as to use the word “murdered” long before a shred of evidence was provided. Yet in the face of video footage (that pesky thing called evidence) of Eric Garner’s actual murder at the literal hands of an NYPD officer, de Blasio showed no “outrage”, only platitudinous sentiment.

Such reactions are typical, but there is nothing shocking about them when we understand that our society operates on a clearly defined, yet often unarticulated, hierarchy of violence, and that the function of politicians and police is to normalize and enforce that violence. Thus, as an institution, police act as state-sanctioned gangs charged with the task of upholding the violent, racist hierarchy of white supremacist capitalism and, whenever possible, furthering a monopoly of power where all violence from/by those higher on the hierarchy upon those lower can be normalized into business as usual.

Jumping the Thin Blue Line: Police, Death and Justice
Walter Rhett: Jumping the Thin Blue Line: Police, Death and Justice

Ow—Rep. Charlie Rangel makes very good sense! The fault for the shooting of two New York City police officers lies with one person. A nut with a gun. Often, mentally ill people who engage in shootings have issues with family, intimate relationships or authority, and make them targets.

Rather making making the police targets, the demonstrations and protests have focused on the absence of justice and accountability. In Gabby Giffords’ case, a rush of politicians and spokespeople vehemently denied any connection between speech about violent revolution, images with target bullseyes superimposed on the faces of elected officials, rallies attended by people openly carrying a variety of guns. Many of those who denied a connection, calling the instance “isolated,” draw a line of cause and effect between protest and violence.

Protests aside, it is clear many New York City police have no respect for law and resist civilian control as they violate administrative rules and criminal codes at will. By abundant evidence: recall the $1,300 an officer in Brooklyn took in October from the shirt pocket of a person not in custody who was pepper-sprayed in the face. The person, in a park with several friends who are heard on camera demanding the police return the money, withdrew the money from his bank to celebrate his wife’s birthday later that evening. None of the other officers at the scene attempted to stop the illegal act, which was a deliberate theft (in New York, larceny). One pepper-sprayed his sister for protesting.

The same officer had been previously sued the year before for the use of excessive force. The suit claimed the officer beat a citizen and, after kicking him in the throat, fractured his larynx. The city settled the case for $25,000. With no evidence of accountability, the police department claimed the money taken (also improper as no arrests were made!) was properly vouched as $62...

@coldjoint,
Slavery is no sin of mine, I had nothing to do with it. I dont have anymore to do with slavery than I did with the death of 45 million chinese during the Great Leap Forward. People should not waste my time yakking about this ancient history to me expecting some response or another, I aint interested. If they have a problem with slavery they need to take it up with the people who were responsible when they get to where ever we go after we die. If we dont go anywhere then my response is basically the same...."**** it, move on already. Dont you have something worthwhile to do?"

First we all have both slaves and slaveholders in our blood lines as slavery was a common fact of life for most of record history and it was only for a very short time frame that the words slaves and blacks was tightly tied together.
