I'm not sure if she likes me?

Sat 21 Jun, 2014 03:00 pm
So there is this front receptionist chick at my gym she always smiles and try's to get me to stay and talk. Anyway sometimes I see her working out and we don't really say much to eachother. Anyway today we was saying how I look mad and like I don't want to talk at the gym so she said she just leaves me alone. I do want to talk to her I'm just nervous to talk to her I'm not sure why either she's a pretty down to earth woman. Maybe one day I will get the balls to ask her out for some drinks lol..

@Bigshot ,
What's the question?

Ask her out for a beverage and see where the discussion leads. ask her things like 'Do you see someone steadily'...etc. 'What are your interests when not at the gym?' This is basic stuff.

Also remember she is being paid to be social and friendly. Watch her eyes when you talk. And watch her body language. And don't be such a wuss. what have you got to lose? She doesn't bite. And, fergawdsake,...relax.

@Bigshot ,
That was a good time to explain that you were serious - not mad.

Un, you might start off with coffee and donuts instead of drinks.

@Ragman,
I guess its all about what the definition of NO! is. It can be very subtle! Even **** NO! has its little bit of ambiguity.

@Bigshot ,
umm...what? You ask for advice so I gave you advice. There was no insult ...either intentional or unintentional. This is a forum. Now you're tossing insults at me?

@Bigshot ,
So ask. Worst thing that happens is, she says no. By not asking, you guarantee a no. By asking, you might get a yes. So it's a win-win.

One thing, though, the gym people are often paid to get people to hang around, in an effort to get you to extend your membership or buy private services (e. g. a personal trainer's time) or the like. Recognize that that might be the case.

@Bigshot ,
ok - she works at the gym - part of her job is to make sure customers are comfortable/happy there.

If you're interested in finding out if her smiles are anything more than part of her job try smiling back and engaging in casual conversation - equipment at the gym, schedules for classes there etc. Work your way up to inviting her out for coffee. Drinks is a step too far to start things.

You're not talking to high schoolers.

Is the way you interact with her the same way you have responded to posters here?

The operating principle of that last statement being, "Takes one to know one." Its OK. Come out as slowly as you need, Mary. We are an accepting group here.

@Bigshot ,
Coffee is ageless (well, don't take toddlers out for it, but you know what I mean). Coffee can end up as not a date, and everyone saves face. Drinks pretty much 100% = date.

If you're looking to minimize ambiguity, ask her out for drinks. If you want to provide an out in case you aren't on the same page, ask her out for coffee (and then, if it goes well, ask at the end, "I'd like to see you again. You, know, for a date." Then the ambiguity level is at zero).
