@ehBeth,
You know what I really like?

Pillows.

Some day I'm going to have a fantasy room that's all done up like a pasha's bed chambers with nothin' but pillows all over the place.

why are you worried about her having a normal number of pairs of shoes?

I get that you don't like them strewn around your house. Maybe the two of you aren't a good match for living together?

Ah, I see. My pain is your amusement. Touche.

I was being serious.

How many bras does she have?
Do you keep track of them as well?

I've got a shitload of bras. Obviously eBeth does too.

You're trying to get this off course. NO, i don't count her bras. it's not been a cause of problems like the shoes OBVIOUSLY are.

@soundsighted,
I'm in one right now.

hamburgboy (my father) was married to my mother until the day she died.

I know many couples who have been together 25 - 50+ years.

So yeah, lots of relationships out there making it 'forever'.

But finding a person who isn't annoying isn't easy. Forget flowers and chocolates and rings. Just find someone who doesn't annoy you.

the shoes aren't causing the problem - one or both of the humans in the house is causing the problem

Ah, an imaginary person then.

Perhaps I should date the tooth fairy?

We didn't have room for either of us accumulating hundreds of shoes, thank goodness. I suppose we could have rigged some device from the ceiling, but that didn't become a need.

I don't get the hostility and joking re a reasonable question.

@soundsighted,
Bullshit.

You just don't like the fact she leaves her stuff lying around.

If her shoes were put away, you wouldn't even know or care how many pair she has.

duh. I have a LOT of equipment I use for work, but some of it is dangerous, so I PUT IT AWAY PROPERLY instead of leaving it lay around. If she's doing this just to annoy me, that sucks because I love her, but I honestly think 108 pairs of shoes is excessive.

the problem is not the shoes - it's the mess and likely that the person living in your house doesn't keep her shoes out of your way. I get that.

If you don't like it - and she doesn't want to tidy up the shoes, re-consider whether she is someone you want to be in a long-term relationship with.

Little fiddly things can really **** up relationships. People somehow manage to get past cancer but can't get past toothpaste tube squishing.

So, she could have 500 bras, but you don't care, because you don't trip on them.

If you're concerned about her hoarding behavior, you better check her lingerie drawers, or check to see if she's got a thousand bobby pins or nails files stashed away some where.

You just think she's sloppy, and are mad because she doesn't put her shoes up.

Or, maybe you have papoutsiphobia

it is to you, but it isn't to other people

my father always had more shoes and jackets than my mother. she wasn't about clothes. he still is (more than she was).

I've had times in my life when less than 10 pairs of shoes was enough. At other times, I've had over 100 pairs of footwear (including boots/runners/flip flops/skates etc). I'm in the middle these days.

A male friend of mine has well over 150 types of sporting shoes - for different types of walking/running/cycling etc. He has two pairs of shoes for work.

If someone comes to my house and trips on one of her heels and cracks their head, I could be sued because it's my property.
