Those policies were only substandard according to the ACA. How many of those 5 million cancelled policies were people happy with. The ACA only considers them substandard because it set the standards. If you like your insurance you can keep it? Remember that?

5 million people had policies cancelled and we have just over 7 million sign up for insurance. Interesting how they got to that 7 million # isn't it?

Actuallybaldimo you're wrong. Over 9 million people got policies, including those from the private companies who "cancelled" their old policies and wrote new compliant ones which people accepted.

They don't have to pay yet. Hard to tell how many people have paid when those payments aren't even due. Stupid objection.

@MontereyJack,
The 9 million # includes those who have signed up for Medicad. Those people are receiving free govt insurance and there fore should not count in the ACA sign-ups. People have to pay for insurance or the whole system fails.

No, Mr. President
The debate is not over.

Quote:
President Obama said yesterday:

The debate over repealing this law is over. The Affordable Care Act is here to stay. ..

And to that, and all of you sycophants
Quote:
No, Mr. President. No way, Mr. President. We do not accept, we do not acquiesce in, this deplorable piece of legislation. The debate is not over. The debate will continue. It must continue. What is at stake is sound health care policy for America. But what is also at stake is reversing your attempt, Mr. President, to transform a free country committed to limited government into merely another nation burdened with the worst aspects of big-government nanny-statism.

Mr. President, you have been elected our 44th president. We of course accept that, and we understand that you will continue to fight for your legislation and threaten to veto attempts to repeal and replace it. But we do not accept that you get to decide that the debate is over. We do not accept that you acquire any moral authority by claiming to enlist "history" on your side. We do not accept that your attempt to expand welfare state at the expense of individual liberty and the rule of law is true "progress."

President Obama, you might wish the debate were over. You might think you can intimidate us into conceding the debate is over. But you are wrong. The Republican party stands committed, acting through democratic means and as the agent of a self-governing people, to repealing and replacing Obamacare.

@Rockhead,
They can sign up via the Fed exchange. Besides, what is the cost going to be for the medicaid expansion? The Feds only cover the full cost of the expansion for the first 3 years, after that the states have to pay out of their own coffers. How is this going to save anyone money?

This is the same negative nonsense that went on from American conservatives when Social Security was first enacted.

Now that program is one of the most popular and successful programs ever.

American conservatives have been on the wrong side of damn near every important issue this country has ever faced. And 99.9%* of all American conservatives are simply dupes of the barons...dupes steadying the hands of barons who are trying to slit their throats.

Don't hate 'em.

Feel sorry for them...pity them.

They are probably the most self-deluded pack of toadies the world has ever seen.

* Yeah, I know. 87.6% of all statistics are made up right on the spot!

It is not running out of money...and it is one of the most (if not THE MOST) popular safety net programs ever.

Social Security can pay out full benefits through 2037. At that point, it will have enough money to pay out 75 percent of benefits.

Sure Frank.

It would seem that it isn't doing as well as you think it should be. Will the money be there in 25 years when I'm ready to collect?

Okay...nothing in the article says that it is running out of money. And changes can be made...or adjustments made.

It is better than the Republican "screw 'em...let 'em die."

Why would you want it?

You hate the idea of the government being involved in your welfare.

But there will be adjustments...and maybe future benefits will be paid later...and at a lesser rate.

But it will still be a safety net...still be a program instituted by progressives while battling conservatives with a "screw 'em" mentality...and still be one of the most popular safety net programs ever.
