@cicerone imposter,
I wonder why.

It's really all quite silly. Canajun oil going to the US, while US oil goes to Argentina.

and while Keystone is being fought/debated, the oil is being transported by rail at a decreasing cost.

The mind boggles.

@ehBeth,
Try not to think rationally about American politics. LOL
Oil prices are at its lowest in three years, and Americans already pay the lowest for gas. I paid $3.49/gallon for premium this past week.

As you say, we over produce oil now, and we export oil to other countries. On top of that, people don't mind fracking to use precious water when water is the most precious for humans, and our water reserves in California is lower than 25% of capacity. They don't seem too worried about our water supply.

This only proves once again that Americans aren't too bright.

@ehBeth,
Most oil offers up to 20:1 energy benefit. Tar Sand oil offers 2:1 energy benefit. Its also a heavy oil while most US oil is "sweet light" which requires some heavy oil to be refined into gasoline. Forcing the US to buy gas from sand oil allows refiner to charge higher prices for gasoline from it. Higher prices, higher margins, bigger profits.

Why do we need sand oil for "energy security" when we are a net exporting producer? If that security was so important in the light of a net drop in oil production over all around the world, except in the US which still hasn't reached the record out puts of the 50'sand 60's, wouldn't we be better to keep every single drop here in the US?

That is exactly and precisely how you say that.

Rick Perry criminal case can proceed, judge rules
Source: Austin American-Statesman

A state district judge refused to throw out the criminal charges against Gov. Rick Perry, ruling Tuesday that special prosecutor Michael McCrum had been properly appointed to the case.

Perry’s legal team argued that the charges must be voided because special prosecutor Michael McCrum did not properly take his oath of office when he began working on the governor’s case, negating every act performed over the past 15 months — including the indictment accusing Perry of abusing the powers of his office.

Senior District Judge Bert Richardson disagreed.

“This court concludes that Mr. McCrum’s authority was not voided by the procedural irregularities in how and when the oath of office … was administered,” Richardson’s order said.

@Baldimo,
Actually, the only reason for Obama not moving forward is the process is not complete. Because the pipeline crosses an international border the State Department has to do the approval.

Quote:
Q. Where do things stand in the Keystone approval process?

A. The State Department has the permitting authority for the project because it crosses an international border, and the secretary of state must determine whether the project is “in the national interest” — a determination that includes economic, environmental, national security and foreign policy implications.

In January, the State Department released an 11-volume environmental impact statement concluding that the pipeline was unlikely to significantly increase the rate of carbon pollution in the atmosphere. That analysis kicked off a 90-day review process in which Secretary of State John Kerry sought comment from eight other agencies, including the E.P.A. and the Commerce, Defense and Homeland Security departments. Mr. Obama will make the final decision. But the State Department halted the review in April after a Nebraska district court blocked the governor’s decision to allow the pipeline to pass through the state.

I guess the GOP will have to decide if the XL Pipeline trumps states rights if Nebraska doesn't let the pipeline go through their state.

@bobsal u1553115,
I'm assuming all the cussing was directed at CJ?

As to the article you posted, it looks like someone got themselves deported after lying to officials.
Quote:
Clearly, Jakadrien Turner's case is complicated. This much is known, according to news reports. She lied to authorities about her identity. The false name she gave indicated that she was a Colombian woman, who appears to have been deportable. Turner, who speaks no English, remains in Latin America while officials in both countries figure out what to do.

Why lie in the first place? You are only asking for trouble. This still doesn't explain how 5 million citizens are going to be deported. Sounds like you are getting some facts crossed. He is trying to protect about 5 million illegal immigrants from deportation. They are not citizens though.

@parados,
That's an interesting issue, because the XL pipeline didn't pass congress this time, but it's surely to pass in the next congress when the GOP takes over. It's a tossup whether Obama will veto it or not.

Republican Push To Promote Women Stumbles As White Guys Sweep Committee Chairs
Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- Republicans, stung by perceptions that they are the party of old white men, have gone out of their way since the election to give more prominence to women in the party. That effort appeared to hit a stumbling block Wednesday, however, as the GOP filled all of the open committee chairmanships in the House of Representatives exclusively with white men.

Before naming the white-guy slate, the House Republicans had elevated women to more than half of the spots on the leadership team, although the top three posts are still held by men. Even over in the Senate, where there are no women on the leadership team that will take over in January, incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made sure to pose between the GOP's two new female senators at a photo-op with new members last week.

The news that men will fill all nine open chairmanships when the next session starts in January comes just as women are poised to take more seats in Congress than ever before in the history of the institution. Rep. Candice Miller (R-Mich.) will remain the only chairwoman, heading the House Committee on Administration.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, which regularly bashes the GOP for waging a "war on women," pounced Wednesday, lambasting the majority party.

@bobsal u1553115,
The Huff post has nothing to post here. If they were not willing to celebrate the election of women and minorities by the GOP, they should have no business complaining. Of the 6 current female govs, 4 of them are GOP. No mention of the GOP being the party to elect Tim Scott the first black man elected to the Senate from the South.

Until the Huff post can report the real groundbreaking news, they can **** off.
