My oh my, indeed. I don't comprehend exactly what the issue was but let's move on. Thanks, Lola, for your efforts to make CARFAX work.
So the new word is THRIP.
When it rains it pours. Able2Know has, since Wednesday, been challanging my sign-on, saying that I am a guest until I can provide a user name and password. I don't know why.
As of 1/30 @ 6 pm ET I have received bluff definitions from:
Diane, Diowan, Equus, Jespah and Macsm11 (plus my own which I understand is permitted). If you have submitted a ruse and you are not on the list please try again.
We always welcome new players. A full set of rules is available at the top of this forum. Basically, at this stage of the game, we invite players to submit definitions for the word THRIP that might fool other players. Send yours to me by PM.
If you happen to know the correct meaning of THRIP, PM me with
that. You will be regarded with awe by the other players (but it's not fair to look the word up).
I look forward to hearing from players old and new. -rjb-
rjb - have you clicked in the box at sign-in that says "Remember me"? Do you have cookies enabled on your computer? Either or both of those could be the reason you're being asked for your password and user name.
THRIP YOU SAY - OK I WILL HAVE A GO
Good evening on what could be an interesting night here in Virginia. It's been drizzling all day and the temp is now right around freezing. Rain or snow is fine but sleet or ice is not nice.
As of about 5 pm ET on 1/31 I have received new and welcome bluffs from Littek, Lola, Sozobe and Zyzzygogue. Thanks. -rjb-
what about Cheshire, rjb?
I've just pm'd my definition to realjohnboy.
Lola...Chesire's in. Ching The Wonder Dog, asleep by my wood stove, is not. She's even worse on the computer than I am!
LAST CALL for bluff answers. I have to work tomorrow but my plan is to post the ruses Saturday evening. Those of you playing at home can have Sunday and Monday to respond; those of you playing at work (which you really shouldn't be doing) will have Monday to cast your votes.
Thanks. -rjb
So here we go with 14 bluffs + the correct answer...
1) To snap one's fingers
2) The chemical process of elevating noble gas temperatures
3) A silly feeling cats get when they sleep
4) Lobster bait
5) In Ireland there is a gorge with a legend. The earth split to separate two ill-fated lovers and the result is still called, locally, thRip
6) Derogatory term for someone who talks incessantly; a babbler
7) An insect known to infest and destroy corn crops
8) A small, grayish brown bird that feeds mainly on ants
9) A brief flash of light near the end of a reel of motion picture film, used by projectionists as a cue to synchronize the next reel
10) Small insect, whose larval form infests plants, such as roses, and sucks their sap
11) Two or more jellyfish
12) Slang term for a young boy of what we would taday call prechool age
13) After a cat fight, a cat first says "ptooey, ptooey" to get rid of the other cat's hair. When that is cleaned out, a couple of "thrips" help cleanse the palate
14) A mechanical part used for joining pipes of widely varying sizes
15) A type of simple wood edging
This is Stage 2 of the game. Please vote for the definition that you think is the correct one.
It doesn't matter whether or not you offered a bluff. You are still invited to participate in this part of the game. -rjb-
Wow, great definitions - they're all over the place. I'm going with #4.
Hmm, they're all very attractive. I'm going with #14.
Sounds like lobster bait to me. I'll bite. #4!
Wow.... these are great definitions!!
I'll choose #11
I think 4 also, although many of them sound enticing. But I'll choose 4.
RJB, Thanks for being dasher, you dashing devil, you.
Felix Noir votes for #3 with absolute certainty.
I vote for #14 with no certainty.
BTW, Felix and Cheshire may have somewhat superior attitudes when it comes to dogs, but all the animals get along surprisingly well here in the game room, so please ask Ching the Wonder Dog to join in the game.
ahem. um, I received a pm from Littek: "Hell, I dunno, I'll go for #14 - the pipe thingie."
We're still waiting for Diowan, Larry BS, Sozobe and Zyzzgogue.
-rjb: the dashing devil
(Psst, rjb, her name is d
Lowan. Remember, don't provoke the bunny!)
whoops, I thought the vote was private.... solly.
