[/quote]Without doubts. And thus, we've got the
G-20 major economies group to
bring together systemically important industrialized and developing economies to discuss key issues in the global economy ...
@izzythepush,
China, regarded as a Russian ally on the issue, abstained from the vote

China ain't dumb. An abstention appeases both sides. China doesn't endanger its contracts with the walmarts and the politicians don't have to worry about flack from the walmarts' executives.
@izzythepush,
How come the USA and the UK didn't get the boot from the G8, izzy?

China at some point is going to have to get down off that fence and choose. I am sure that the Western leaders assume that they will choose the West for economic reasons, but I am not so sure.
@hawkeye10,
Hawk, why didn't the USA and the UK didn't get the boot from the G8 for their illegal invasions of I & A? Why doesn't the USA get the boot for its 120 years of collective terrorist activities against Cuba and Korea, just to mention two?

The justification for throwing Russia out is a bit flawed, ain't it......
as usual the words are a cover for the truth, which is " we are doing what we want to do because we can get away with it".
Why should we care whether Russia wants to take over part of Ukraine? Why is the Ukraine any better than Russia? Moreover, it seems that we are the big hypocrites, having bombed 30 countries since WWII. We invaded Nam, a small agrarian country that never did anything to us, or threatened us in any way, and killed over three million people there. Bush lied us into invading Iraq, another country that didn't do anything to us, and killed and wounded hundreds of thousands there.
Regarding Russia, we expanded NATO so much that it almost surrounds Russia. It is about time that we focused on the problems in the USA, which are enormous.
Perhaps our military calls the shots in the USA.

As has been pointed out America is the signatory of a treaty that guaranteed Ukraine's territorial integrity.
Similar arguments were made when Hitler reoccupied the Rhine, and look where that ended up.

The USA has been a signatory to lots of things but that hasn't stopped them from committing myriad crimes against humanity, myriad terrorist acts, myriad invasions, ... .
The poodles too!
@Advocate,
A: Perhaps our military calls the shots in the USA.
Certainly the military industrial complex does, A. Of that there is no doubt.

Nobody is talking military action, people are talking sanctions.
@JTT,
Has it ever been in doubt? Anywhere?
What's the alternative? Abolish parades, flag-waving, brass bands, and other military ceremonials? And 4% growth?
Even doormen look like officers.
@izzythepush,
Izzy: Nobody is talking military action, people are talking sanctions.
Where are the sanctions against the USA and the poodles?
@spendius,
I don't have the foggiest notion where you are going with this talk, Spendi.
S: What's the alternative?
War crimes trials at The Hague.
@izzythepush,

Sanctions????? !!!! Travel bans and asset freezes. What's up with confiscations? When the thaw comes, and if it doesn't it won't matter, the assets will still be there with interest accruing. They can visit London electronically.
Probably Putin's suggestion because as a statesman he knows the other side need a face-saver and something to witter about while he moves his forces around.
And he's heard Obarmy's threats before.
@Advocate,
Just a short reminder that NATO translates to
North Atlantic Treaty Organization, and the USA is one member state out of 28.
(The Secretary General is Danish as is the NATO's Military Chairman while the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is British.)
@JTT,

That's not abolishing the military/industrial complex JT. It's a little red-herring to try to disguise the obvious fact that you have no alternative to offer to the m/i complex and just enjoy slagging it off because it's a bit
risque and fashionable in certain circles.
How would you draw the teeth from the m/i complex? There's nothing foggy about that question.

Yeah right, Walter. Does that mean that there were 27 poodles that followed the USA into Iraq?

Oh, our nit-picker-supreme weighs in again. I am well aware of the nature of NATO, and the influence in it of our country. We certainly didn't object to its expansion.
