Yes, most probably ages earlier than you  - and later "accompanied" twice some Germans back here, additionaly.
Still, I'll stay with my personal conclusions
rick : i think the viennese life style is so much more relaxed than that of german cities of similar size. we were in berlin last year and while we enjoyed our stay , you had to hold on to your belongings. mrs. h had her money lifted out of a zippered handbag slung across her neck even though she was hanging on to it with both hands. while the police were very friendly and helpful, they told us that we were lucky since the passport had not been stolen (i carried it in a pouch under my shirt !). i feel it's the centuries old connection to the orient(i should find a better expression, but can't think of one), that has helped shape the character of the viennese . i know from my own experiences that germans (particularly those from northern germany !), think that the austrians are a little too relaxed and easy-going. they are not "zackig" enough ! well, their life-style appeals to me. lingering over a cup of coffee and a glass of water while reading all the newspapers in the cafe, is a lot more attractive to me than rushing off to whatever comes next . SERVUS, HERR NACHBAR ! hbg ... (walter is excluded from aforementioned germans !!! ) ...
Must have a Catholic background

Ich lieben deutscher Bier.
Die Uschi hat ein Muschi.
Wer fiel trinkt der kotzt auch viel.
Tsicke Zacke Zicke Zacke hoi hoi hoi.
There you go guys, have some more German beer. :-D
Mir sand no so richtige Bayern, mier stinket nach Kuahstall und Schnapps, mir saufet wie de Loecher und Sachzger-Fans samma a.
Anyone can translate that one?
We are the right bavarians, we reek of cowhouse and schnapps. we booze as holes and we are also 1860 Munich (football-team) fans.
Damit dieser Thread wieder zu Tage kommt ;-)
Postet hier niemand mehr? ;-)
Hat sich wohl ausgeposted.
Living in Canada I was under the impression that the whole world speaks English to get along.
I have Deutsche Welle on my TV and I learned a lot by watching it. There are an amazing number of people all over the world who speak German as a second language.
Not tourists, but businessmen or students.
Germans are everywhere to do commerce or to help other countries.
The 12 years of Nazi hell are all but forgotten. The new Germany is the opposite of that terrible regime: very democratic, anti-war, pro-environment and friendly.
Makes me feel good inside.
Looks like we have had it with you Germans!

Wie man sieht nicht, so schnell kann es gehen.
Why do people always come up with the old Nazi regime when talking about Germany? It's useless. Nowadays the Germans are our friendly neighbor; I couldn't wish for a better Nachbar than our German friends

Thank you, for this compliment. The Netherlands are also our best friends. :-)
Yeah Israeli and we also do love your pot and coffeeshops.

Agreed.
Besides, perhaps: "Deutschland, Deutschland,
Alles ist vorbei, alles ist vorbei, alles ist vorbei!"
