Why is it so important to refute Christianity?

BTW, is there a thread going in which the topic of discussion is the burning in hell of all non-believers? I'd like to look at that (really).

Inherent to the religion of Christianity is the belief that we atheists will burn in hell forever. While it's bad form these days for Christians to talk about it it is, indeed, a central part of Christianity.

Affirmation of your beliefs are an affirmation of the concept of hell. Whether or not you say it most of us understand that this is inherent to your belief.

But Christians here have said it. I can't tell you how many times I've been told that Christians here were using PMs to remind others not to debate with certain people and take solace in that they'll burn in hell.

Hell, one time someone mistook me for a Christian and decided to tell me a list of all the "Anti-Christs" here who will burn forever.

So suffice it to say that this particular element of the Christian belief is alive and well here on A2K. Christians have gloated in that atheist "Anti-Christs" will burn forever.

Husker, have you called members here "Anti-Christ"? And affirmed that they will burn in hell? The answer to that is yes. For a while the person you said that to was sending PMs to all the people she thought were Christians and for some odd reason based on some Bible discussions I'd started she sent them to me. It was a whole "let's all rise up and call so and so and so and so the Anti-Christ".

The "Anti-Christ" campaign was something you were involved in and yes you did gloat in that several members here would "burn in hell".

You used those exact words. This is one reason I brough the Hell angle up. On threads you avoid it but you did participate in the misguided and short-lived "Anti-Christ/burn in hell" campaign.

I think it's duplicitous when the Christians here cry foul at having their beliefs challenged but think nothing of gloating in the eternal torture of members here.

Yes yes, I am aware of your beliefs. I will give them all the consideration that they are due.

My hope is that primitive, mean-spirited beliefs will continue to decline in society and that the awakening to secularism continues.

I don't mind burning in hell if it means I can be with my friends. I'd be pretty lonesome in heaven.

I think the hours will be much shorter than in Heaven, given the great number of those of us who are condemned. The notion of spending eternity singing songs of praise to a vengeful, adolescent, conceited and egocentric deity is pretty well my vision of Hell, anyway.

this whole concept of 'life as a trial' is ridiculous; it obviously stems from our pre-sentience experiences on the evolutionary 'rack'.
The whole possibility of letting others be whatever they wish to be seems to be an affront to organized religions.

I would be mellowing and apologize for that indiscretion and lack of maturity - and please remind when I'm teetering on my own edge of destruction.

That's interesting - are there lots of Anti-christs? Or was the term used just to mean mean and nasty?

I thought there was only one big one - I think here a belief in such a thing would be seen as very fundamentalist - do lots of US christians believe in such concepts? If someone does not mind answering.

One of them told me on a thread that I was gonna burn in hell. Furthermore, she stated that she herself would not get any satisfaction herself until she saw it.

I don't remember the exact instance - and it's possible I was acknowledging a behavior vs a personality. I do like and enjoy most everyone here, most days do not that there are religious differences and beliefs. Reality there is one anit-christ but much behavior as such.
Likewise only one Christ and many trying and falling short of the behavior.

So, Husker - not asking about you, but more generally, would calling people the anti-christ be a common thing in christian circles?

Just trying to get my head around all this stuff - you see, I really have almost nothing to do with christians these days - and the ones I wa sraised with would not use such language - is it a more fundamentalist thing, if it is a general thing? Would preachers, for instance, call people anti-christ from pulpits and such?

From my pulpit we are taught of one anti-Christ and not to be fooled by those others might call the anti-Christ. Isn't it funny how people call others the anti-Christ but no one calls anyone the Christ! When the anti-Christ comes, we'll know it! And it certainly isn't Wilson:)

I've always wondered, considering what happened to christ the first time he came, who's ever going to believe in him the second time around? He could already be here and stuck in a nut house somewhere!!!

Thank you, Deborah - would this concept be often discussed?

I think I learned about the anti-christ from friends and films - not from the pulpit...
