That's simply nonsense, Spendi. These "rough men" are simply thieves, pirates, gangsters, murderers,

That is what the Romans did and everybody else since. No thieves, pirates, gangsters and murderers--no coliseum. No Roman law.

Bush worsened the world's security situation in many ways

How do you know that? You must be imagining a better situation without Mr Bush. As we did have Mr Bush alternatives are fantasy. Obviously idealistic ones.

We elect the fuckers. What do we want to elect people for in order to stand up to them?

So you think that the fuckers you elected have your best interests at heart!!!!!!!!!

Silly person indeed.............

First their own self interest, next those supporter that provide the $$$$$ for them to run for office and maintain themselves in office, next the majority of special interest voters in their own distracts.

The welfare of the people as a whole is very low down the list, let alone the rights of minorities that do not have a great deal of power at the polls.

@spendius,
History is a funny science in that there's never an alternative scenario. You can never prove causality in history, therefore. And yet it is possible, at least in some cases, to offer an historical judgement on, say, an American or French or Zimbabwean president. My judgement concerning W is that he is probably the worse and clearly the most stupid US leader ever. Don't you agree?

So what's your alternative to the constitutional process?

@BillRM,
As Spendi said. We can always kick them out. After Iraq, the people we need to stand up to are the lunatics who want to involve us in another ridiculous military adventure. And we did. You couldn't.

Probably the mess that's going on right now. Back in 1945 the British people stood up to the establishment which is why we have Universal Health Care and America is in lockdown.

@izzythepush,
They're even shooting women for driving a bit erratically with a kid in the back.

I'm surprised anybody dare shout BOO! The sort of BOO! a ghost shouts when it jumps out from behind a bush in the forest on a dark and stormy Gothic night.

@spendius,
In places where life is cheap there's not a lot of sense in spending mountains of dough on saving any and having to cut spending on securing the safety of the place.

"There's plenty more where I came from" is the motto. It's in one of Rider Haggard's African roller-coaster jobs.

Which is, I know, a shocking thing to say at a Liberal dinner party. One might expect to get asked to leave I should have thought.

The US spend must more per person on health care now then the UK happen to or anyone else for that matter.

It just that the current US health care system benefit others far more then the patients.

Like in the US you have so call safe seats in parliament where the overall wishes of the UK population can be ignored by the parties in power.

An like in the US with the house your parties keep trying to set up as many such seats as possible.

The wishes of the UK citizens are no more respected then in the US by your rulers.

I would suggest that like in some of the states in the US the population as a whole would have the right to short circuit congress an vote directly on an issue.

An we could add the right of recall that also exist in some states to made it even more interesting.

Impossible unless you're only talking about what colour to paint the doors and windows on the welfare housing.

What Bill describe is a referendum. It is a goid alternative or addition to representative democracy when the representative forget whom they are suppised to represent.
