To be frank, I've been annoyed by her for years.

I've loved her since the days of The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Her Sue Ann Nivens character was a hoot. And she was great on Boston Legal. I still watch re-runs of The Golden Girls, which I enjoy more now than when it originally aired.

What annoys you about her?

Surely not Diana Nyad.

I'm talking about Betty White.

I don't have any feelings about Diana Nyad, although I do admire her determination and persistence.

I go out to my mailbox and see a letter from my medical association which says CONFIDENTAL. I'm thinking what the heck am I getting - I haven't been to the dr's for a bit and then notice it is from the office where I saw a hand specialist (broke my finger a bit ago while crushing my daughter playing basketball - whole other story).

I figure it is from that office - then notice flu vaccine program. Hmm never got anything personally addressed for me regarding a flu vaccine - letter saysCDC recommends those under 6 months and older than 50 are at risk! Damn I've never been at risk before. Never warranted a personal letter because I am old and at risk.

Get used to it, kiddo. We who are over the half-century mark are prime targets for every nostrum-peddler in the known universe. Wait'll you start getting this junk as a serving of spam in your e-mailbox.

I've been getting loads of annoying robo-calls from various companies peddling things to the older set--like medical alert devices.

But I rarely, if ever, get that sort of thing by e-mail.
