@chai2,
State? This is little old England! I think we could fit into one of the American states - with room to spare!

@vonny,
oops sorry....when you said NE as opposed to SE, I think of let's say New York as opposed to Florida.

As far as room to spare....I live Austin, basically the middle of Texas, which to remind you.....

@Setanta,
Busy little dog.
I'm enjoying the progress reports a lot. It's fun to see her personality unfold, even from this far away.

@chai2,
I just looked it up - The United Kingdom is 94,214 square miles and Texas is 267,338 square miles. And England is only a part of the United Kingdom! Rolling Eyes

Gracie didn't show up. We had thunderboomers in the afternoon, but that cleared up, so we went to the show. I think the little doggies had a good time. Bella was apprehensive on the bus at first, but she soon adjusted as she had done the first time she went on that epic adventure. We watched our show, and then it started pouring rain again. Going home was a bit of an ordeal. All's well that ends well, though.

So Vonny, you went from Yorkshire to Essex or Kent? I should have asked the county first thing.

@Setanta,
Good that Bella coped with a bus journey. It can be scary for a little dog on its first excursion. She's obviously a brave little girl.

Not Yorkshire - even further north. Newcastle and Northumberland for me, North Yorkshire for my husband - both left out family homes for London in our teens. After marriage, moved here to the Herts/Essex border.

That was not her first journey by bus, subway and street car. She did that last week. She seemed anxious at first, but she settled in soon enough. The Girl picked her up and held her if she seemed anxious.

@Setanta,
She obviously feels very secure with you both - must have been traumatic the first time. She's doing very well - still early days, but she's come on in leaps and bounds.

The little girl dog completely astonished me by sitting on command as we prepared to cross the last street on our walk yesterday evening--then she looked up at me for approval.

Naw, i told her she's a stinky, darned ol' girl, and it was a good thing she sat or i'd have to sell her to the travelin' gypsies . . .

Really, she's a momma's girl. When The Girl comes home she spins around in circles and jumps about three or feet in the air until The Girl picks her up. And she talks--barkbarkbarkbarkbarkbarkbark, etc. I have to play the hard case, so that she'll do as she's told to get my approval. It has to be done--there's no way for her to be safe in the city unless she learns to pay attention and not run out in the street.

A good walk last night--she didn't sit on command, and i had to put her bottom on the ground each time, but she also didn't run into the street or even offer to do so. We met a family, and she enjoyed them so much, she wanted to go with them. She's very good at "walk around" now. She's a happy girl when we go for a walk, and that, after all is the object.

@Setanta,
Early days - you're doing things the right way - putting her happiness and safety first. The rest will follow!

I'd forgotten what it's like to have a young, giddy, spring-loaded dog.

It's pretty darn wonderful.

In the morning, after snuggle time is over, Bella zooms down the stairs to check on Mr. Bailey, who is still sleeping by the front door for the most part. She wakes him up with wild wags of her killer tail. Set has suggested renaming her Thumper. Her crazy little tail just goes like crazy - almost knocks herself over at times.

She is a crazy high jumper for a little dog. If I could jump as high as she can - proportionately (porportionally?), I'd probably be jumping over the top of this two and a half story house. She often knocks things off doorknobs with her waggy tail as she jumps up and down.

She did a good sit for me tonight.

I put her on the short leash once I got home so we could accompany Mr. Bailey on his leisurely wander and pee up and down the block. My favourite very old Chinese lady was out for her regular 5:45 p.m. constitutional. We give each other thumbs-up in greeting and say hi and bye. I think that is pretty much the limit of her English language skills.

She was on her way home as Bailey, Bella and I wandered between our driveway and the neighbours' (ummm ok they're sort of attached). Bella was intrigued and was ready to bounce up on the lady. I asked Bella to sit. She bounced a bit and then sat and the lady patted her. Bella bounced. I asked her to sit. She sat. She was patted.

Love is definitely her reward system.

Wonderful description. She sounds a joy to be with!

I agree on love as a reward system - most dogs seem to respond to it. And with our Megan - carrots!

@ehBeth,
Keeping an eye, reading, reading, for "teaching" my new little boy.... though he isn't even 12 inches yet, or 8 weeks, nearly, I may learn from you two..........

Can hear the love, excitement and happiness. Good for you...
