COVINGTON -- A 75-year-old Carr Circle man accidentally shot himself in the early morning hours Thursday, according to Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis.
#"We do believe it to be an accidental shooting. He was getting ready to go to work, getting in his car when an accidental discharge of the weapon occurred," Davis said.
#The victim was James T. Smith, a longtime employee with Lester Lackey & Sons Funeral Home.
I hope he didn't do this because business was slow.
TOWN OF WASHINGTON, Wis. (WEAU) - Police investigated a double shooting in the Town of Washington Tuesday.
Shortly after 4pm, they were called to the 3000 block of Blakely.
A man was handling a gun he'd just purchased earlier in the day, and it went off.
This happened in a car outside the home.
A single bullet went through the man's arm and entered the arm of a woman who was also in the car.
Both were treated at a local hospital. Emergency crews told WEAU.com those involved would be okay.
Police say this was nothing more than an accident.
The incident does, however, stand as a reminder to ensure any weapon you're handling is either unloaded or if it is loaded, is pointed in a safe direction.
And then they give bad gun safety advice.
I learned treat EVERY gun as loaded and always point it in a safe direction.
STARKSBORO — David Harding, 29, of Starksboro received a shotgun blast to a foot when a gun accidentally discharged, Vermont State Police said.
Senior Trooper Justin Busby said police were told that Harding was firing a shotgun at a target behind his residence at 2769 Big Hollow Road about 3:10 p.m. Saturday. Busby said investigation revealed that Harding was trying to reload the shotgun when it discharged “causing a significant injury.”
I guess, if he'd been able to load 100 rounds into the shotgun to begin with, he wouldn't have had the accident when he had to reload.

Ivan, who is on the rolls of the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, was assisting Lt. John Pickles in the recovery of the weapon after it was tossed into a snowbank. Police responded to a call about gunshots being heard in the vicinity of Reservoir and Haverhill Streets at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday and noticed a vehicle with three male occupants fleeing the scene. When Officer Jeff Hart gave chase, one of the suspects tossed the weapon out the window.
When a K-9 unit was called for backup to assist in locating the gun, Ivan apparently pulled the trigger while digging to uncover the weapon. The bullet was fired into a home on Crescent Street, but unlike the earlier incident where the dog’s owner was shot in the leg, no one was hurt by the accidental discharge.
Ivan has not been suspended as a result of the incident, and it’s unknown whether he was praised for locating the pistol, or reprimanded for unsafe procedures in the recovery of a weapon.
