Teen Accidentally Shot by Child in Callaway, Bay County Sheriff's Office Investigating


UPDATE from the Bay County Sheriff's Office ... The Bay County Sheriff's Office responded to a call this morning at about 9:15 a.m. in reference to a shooting.


Deputies arrived at a home on Comet Avenue in Callaway to discover 18 year old Emily Allen shot in the head. It appeared the bullet entered the forehead and exited the top of the head. EMS responded to the scene. Allen was alert and talking as she was taken to a local hospital.

DETROIT (WWJ) - Gamblers at Detroit’s Motor City Casino are describing a scary scene after a gun went off on the gaming floor overnight.

Witnesses say a woman was rushed to the hospital after she accidentally shot herself in the leg.

One patron called WWJ Newsradio 950 as everyone was being cleared from the scene. She said, at first, no one knew what was going on.

A spokesperson for the casino said the woman had a concealed weapons permit. She described it as “an accidental discharge,” but said it’s still illegal for someone to bring a gun into a casino.

DECATUR, Ohio — Authorities say a 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the head.

Brown County Sheriff Dwayne Wenninger said it happened yesterday afternoon in the southern Ohio village of Decatur, southeast of Cincinnati.

Wenninger said Sebastian Schwartz got his father’s gun from the bedroom and was playing with it when a younger sister tried to take it away from him. That’s when it discharged, hitting him in the head.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A bullet placed in an oven exploded and wounded an unsuspecting woman who was making a snack Monday night.

Bullet fragments struck and lodged in Aalaya Walker's breast. She was able to pull some of the bullet fragments out, but had to be treated at St. Anthony's Hospital.

Walker, 18, told police she went to her friends house and decided to make waffles in the oven when she became hungry. She said she preheated the oven and a few minutes later heard an explosion. That is when she noticed she had bullet fragments in her breast, thighs and knee area.

Police interviewed Walker's friend about the gun. According to a police report, the friend told police the Glock 21 was in a drawer and the magazine was placed in the oven with four rounds in it.

The friend did provide police with the melted magazine which they had discarded in a dumpster.

Police found the gun owner had a concealed carry permit and that the gun was not stolen.

No charges will be filed in the case.

LOWNDES CO., Ga. --A member of the Air Force is facing charges after a 14-month-old child was shot, according to Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine.

The incident happened Tuesday, February 20, at the Northwind Apartments on Northwind Boulevard. That afternoon, a resident called the sheriff's office and said a baby inside the apartments was hurt.

Deputies and emergency officials responded around 3:30 p.m. As deputies and investigators examined the scene and interviewed witnesses, they learned that another resident in the complex, Justin Scott Hamilton, may be responsible for the child's injury.

Deputies say that Hamilton, 28, was inside his apartment with his handgun, a semi-automatic .40 caliber weapon. He reportedly pulled the trigger, thinking it wasn't loaded. The firearm discharged, and the bullet went through the apartment, crossed a breezeway, and entered the baby's apartment.

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. —A woman in her early 20s accidentally shot and killed herself Wednesday.

Deputies were called to a home at 123 Swan Parkway West in Royal Palm Beach shortly after 10 a.m. and found Krystal Caruso, 23, dead from one gunshot wound to the head.

She lived at the home with friends, one of whom said Caruso had a concealed-weapons permit and often played with her 9-mm handgun, WPBF 25 News' Terri Parker reported.

"She showed me her gun the other night, actually, and she was complaining how the trigger was too hard to pull and it jammed," Jordan Coombs said. "It very well could have been a misfire with the gun, but nonetheless she shouldn't haven't been playing with it."

A 3-year-old Garland boy was fatally shot in his home Wednesday night, police say.

The child, whose name had not been released, was taken to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. But police later confirmed he had died.

Initial reports indicated the boy had been shot in the head, and police were still investigating whether the shooting was accidental.

An 18-year-old Florida woman was only slightly injured this week when she was shot by her friend's oven, police said.

Aalaya Walker was visiting a friend in St. Petersburg Monday when they decided they wanted some late-night waffles, The Tampa Bay Times reported. So Walker began preheating the oven — unaware that her friend, JJ Sandy, 25, was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven.

Child hospitalized following accidental shooting


State police are investigating after a 2-year-old Isabella boy accidentally shot himself in the head Thursday night.

Trooper James Petrosky said Owen Harris was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC-Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh where he remains in critical but stable condition.

A 5-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the arm on Friday inside his Bronx home by a weapon belonging to his father, a law enforcement official said.

Investigators were still trying to determine if the child, identified as Daniel Pantoja, shot himself or was shot by his 11-year-old brother, the official said. Daniel was listed in stable condition at Lincoln Hospital.

A man on Buena Vista Drive was accidentally shot by his brother Friday, according to Chattanooga police.

Officers were sent to 266 Buena Vista Drive on a person shot call about 3:30 p.m. When officers arrived they found Joaqin Burse, 18, with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Michael Burse, 19, the victim’s brother, stated that he thought Joaqin had unloaded a shotgun. Michael Burse stated that he pointed the gun at his brother and accidentally shot Joaqin in the chest. Joaqin Burse was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

A 50-year-old Indiana man accidentally shot himself Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of Hara Arena after attending Bill Goodman’s Gun and Knife Show.

Trotwood police Sgt. Brandon Holbrook said the man, a licensed CCW holder, purchased a holster at the gun show and was putting a handgun in that holster when it accidentally fired. The bullet struck a finger on his left hand and the man was rushed to Miami Valley Hospital. Holbrook said it was unlikely the finger would be able to be reattached.

WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA. (WRCB) -- A Cleveland woman is recovering at a north Georgia hospital after being shot in the legs.

It happened at a gun range in Whitfield County.

The woman's husband was also injured when investigators say a 12-year-old girl dropped a shot gun, causing it to fire.

Shot gun shells litter the grounds of the Chestnut Mountain Shooting Range, where two people were shot Saturday.

GARFIELD (KDKA) – The man accused in a fatal Sunday night shooting in Garfield said it was all a case of mistaken identity and that he accidentally shot his friend.

According to police, the incident happened at a townhouse in the 5100-block of Columbo Street.

The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Andre Broadie.

Broadie was gunned down as he entered the townhouse. A man inside was babysitting three children and was apparently frightened by Broadie’s arrival

It's a case of dog shoots man, not man shoots dog. Well, sort of.

A Frostproof man reported to Sebring police on Feb. 23 that he was traveling in his truck when his dog kicked a gun on the truck's floor, resulting in him being shot in the leg, according to a report.

Sebring police ruled the shooting accidental, and apparently the victim was not seriously injured.

Sebring Police Cmdr. Steve Carr said police did not arrest the dog or detain the animal, pending the investigation. He said he has never heard of a case like this.

NEAR MISSION — A struggle to remove a gun from a drunken man’s hands resulted in him being shot in the head early Sunday, authorities said.

The 20-year-old remained in critical after the accidental shooting about 1:30 a.m. Sunday in a subdivision near Business 83 and Abram Road, according to an Hidalgo County Sheriff’s office report. Residents at the house where the incident occurred told deputies that the 20-year-old arrived there asking to borrow the gun because someone was looking for him.

The homeowner told the 20-year-old he couldn’t take the gun because it was loaded and he was drunk. But the 20-year-old grabbed the gun, pulled the slide back and took a bullet out, tossing it at the homeowner.

It appears alcohol, and one irresponsible act, has tragic consequences. A man is dead following reports that he was accidentally shot by his friend following a drunken dispute.

According to Hidalgo county sheriff’s deputies, it happened early Sunday morning at a home on the 600-block of Ramona street in Palmview. The victim, Elizar Rubio Rodriguez, was visiting 37-year-old Juan Garza when he was fatally shot in the back of the head.

Police arrested a Corral City man after investigating the accidental shooting of his girlfriend. The 53-year-old woman claimed she shot herself in the hand and shoulder while trying to clean her .44-caliber Ruger Vaquero. An officer spoke to her boyfriend, who gave the same story but was extremely nervous and smelled of alcohol. The man eventually admitted that he accidentally shot his girlfriend during an evening of drinking when the couple was doing “quick draws” on each other, unaware that the gun was loaded. The officer reported that the woman had been lying in a large pool of blood all night long. Police took the man into custody for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
