Woman shoots herself in both legs.

Quote:
A woman, who was accidentally shot early Saturday morning in downtown Colorado Springs, is expected to recover.

Police say the victim checked into Memorial Hospital shortly after 2 a.m. with a gunshot wound to both of her legs. She initially told police she was shot by someone in the parking lot behind businesses on Pikes Peak Avenue and Tejon Street.

When police interviewed witnesses in the area, they uncovered a different story.

Police say the woman knocked a loaded handgun off the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s vehicle when she got into that vehicle. When the gun hit the floorboard, it discharged. The bullet passed through both of her calves.

Alice Boland, 28, who was charged in 2005 with threatening to assassinate PresidentGeorge W. Bush and members of Congress as she waited in line at U.S. Customs, is again charged with plotting a violent attack. On Monday, after pacing in front of the school gates during car pool and visibly swinging a gun, she tried to shoot two faculty members: the director of the high school, Mary Schweers, and an English teacher, Chris Hughes.

The police charged Ms. Boland with attempted murder and unlawful carrying of a firearm. The only thing that stopped her, they said, was that she did not realize the gun was locked.

“We were very fortunate she did not know how to take the lock off, or this could have been a tragedy,” said Earl Woodham, a spokesman in Charlotte for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the veteran officer was hospitalized Monday after pulling the trigger at Utah's police academy. No one else was injured.

Man shot, bullet mysteriously vanishes
By Will E Sanders
Staff Writer

COVINGTON - Starr Scott of Covington enjoys walking along the old railroad tracks on his Range Line Road property in Covington, but a stroll down the old rail line on Sunday proved uncharacteristically eventful when he was shot in the hip unexpectedly.
Scott said he initially heard gunshots in the area of his walk, but when he witnessed rounds coming through the brush near him the 58-year-old man ran from the scene in haste.
And that's when an errant round struck him in the right hip.
Once two friends drove him to the Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the hospital to investigate the shooting.
There was just one problem: the bullet Scott was struck with had mysteriously vanished.
Several X-rays of Scott's hip and abdominal area revealed no bullet and an exit wound was not present, according to one sheriff's report.
Authorities and hospital staff believe the bullet "did not penetrate all the way and fell out while Mr. Scott was running back to his shop," reports stated.
