A 12-year-old girl was shot Sunday night in a park on Cleveland's east side.

Police say at 7:30 p.m. someone shot the 12-year-old in the area of Parkwood and Tacoma.

When they arrived they searched for victim and suspects. Someone had already taken the child to the hospital.

Officers interviewed guardians and other people at the park who said that while visiting Walter Burkes Playground, two men began shooting at one another and the child was struck in the chest.

Obviously the man that didn't hit the girl must have been the "good guy" who was only attempting to stop the "bad guy".

The boy, charged with one count of aggravated battery, is expected to return to court Monday. The Sun Sentinel is not identifying him because of his age.

According to a sheriff's report, the girl was shot as she stood on the porch of a house in the 1500 block of Northwest Eleventh Circle about 5:30 p.m. Monday. Williams was there with the boy who shot her and two other teenagers, including a 14-year-old relative.

At some point before the shooting, one teen warned the boy about the gun, Moschella said. "He told him, 'Don't you watch the news? That's dangerous,'" she said.

Officials said the boy allegedly told Williams he was going to shoot one of her breasts.

Police suspect a convicted felon accidentally shot himself in the leg in his south Wichita home early Thursday morning, meaning he’s facing a trip to jail once he gets out of the hospital.

The 18-year-old man was found on the floor of his bedroom by his father at about 12:20 a.m. Thursday in their house in the 3400 block of South Glenn, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s southeast of Meridian and 31st Street South.

He claimed he had been shot by a stranger while walking, Nolte said, but police found no evidence to substantiate the story.
