For me it is not a question on how good it is. I get so filled up after just a couple of spoonfulls.

Okay, too bad. What you're missing.
If Lola employed me as a soup chef, she would need to get a lot more chairs in here. And soup spoons.

@McTag,
Customer in a Deli to the waiter: "Taste my soup."

Waiter: "What’s the matter, there’s something wrong with the soup."

Customer: "Just taste my soup."

Waiter: "Okay, okay. Where’s the soup spoon?"

Customer: "Aha!!!!"

A touch of the Benjamin Buttons perhaps?

No, only read The Times and Sunday Times - which I'm sure you will hate!!! Evil or Very Mad It was mentioned on either BBC or Sky News and commented on in Balance, the magazines for diabetics.

@saab,
I've never seen the travellers with horses and wagons, but have heard of them. What the travelling and wagons reminds me of is the movie, Moliere, now an old movie but probably still wonderful, by Ariane Mnoushkine. I loved it when I saw it - but that was around 1980.

@ossobuco,
To add to that tale, after the zingari left, we found a bakery and they didn't have a toilet.. available to me.

And we found a restaurant working to opening and they wouldn't let me use the bathroom. By now the blood was drooling to my ankle.

We headed for a place I'd read about on via condotti, caffe greco.

I was fine there, famous place, but a calm respite to me.

Wouldn't you know it. Bernie decides to show up and he posts to the old thread. So I've copied and pasted it here.

@Lola,
I thought it incumbent upon me to post here. Sources, I ought not to name her, have informed me that some anonymous German a2k person or personss believe that I may have been banned from this thread. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I left.

Still, be advised that Lola and I are on the very dearest of terms. We write when we do and engage on the phone with an entirely reasonable frequency. I miss her beauty. She misses my character.

My solicitors co-authored the above. What follows, be advised, is published without their approval...

Lola is a battle ax.

@blatham,
Good morning (good evening)!

I'll like to have an extra strong coffee .... and give blatham a cup of valeriana tea for the night, please.

@Walter Hinteler,
Walt, this place is out of favor. The management opened a new one around the corner, somewheres. Be happy to schlep a nice glass of water, however. Signature

@roger,
Right.

That's the one where Bernie's not welcome.

@roger,
Schlep means to lug something around, or to do a difficult or unpleasant task.

@Setanta,
I confess to the schlep thing. Lola's nickname for me, while we were married, was "house donkey".

I am a schlep. It is why we lasted so long.

Wait . . . you can't taste soup with a teaspoon? It has to be a soup spoon?

It's almost noon and the joint's deserted.

Has Wassau started preparing lunch yet? will we be having a buffet or serving family style?

I know Walter wants croissants and coffee Very Happy

I was hoping to see manti on the weekend menu sometime. Is this the week?

I'll put the kettle on while I wait for Frank to get here with the papers.

Around here, Set, you can taste soup with a fork or knife if you like.

@ehBeth,
Late going to bed, late getting up. Daylight savings time - (rubbing eyes, yawning). Wassau, are you and Sybil back there in the kitchen with Beth? Don't make her work! Beth wants manti. I know you know what that is, but you'll have to inform me. I'm ignorant about food. I'm always ready to eat it, but not very good at knowing much about it's preparation. That's why I live across the street from this excellent cafe 101.

Hey Walter, how's your coffee and croissants?

Where is Frank this morning? All the newspapers look like they're still freshly ironed.

@Lola,
While I was in the back, Sybil told me she used some of the cafe's downtime to train at Pierre Loti on 52nd and you know they make the city's best manti.

Can't wait to try Sybil's take on it. She says she picks up the yogurt in Union Square every couple of days - she found a great vendor there.

Wassau sent this out (also a Pierre Loti-inspired offering) for us to nibble on while we wait for the manti.

Ilke's Turkish manti looks the most like Pierre Loti's.
