Any left of this? I'll just pour it into my coffee mug and drink it straight. Wink

@FOUND SOUL,
If they are allowed in the coffee house, then dogs must surely be welcome too?

I hope Wassau has some kibble in the kitchen!

Happy holiday, Osso and Farmerman. Hope all is well.

My daughter is having the cool Christmas, living in a cave in Matera, Italy (see wikipedia entry). Very far south, almost no one speaks English. Christmas night, a group of Italians staying in a nearby cave invited her to join them for whiskey and homemade wine and various games (all in Italian which she doesn't speak). One game was a pantomime contest where one side would act out a movie and the other team would try to guess the title. One title was Woody's 'Everything you Wanted to Know about Sex But Were Afraid to Ask" and the other team got it right away. When she got back to her cave and wrote me, she was quite drunk and very Christmas happy.

@blatham,
Bernie, How y been?
(Ill wait)

The cave dwelling seems interesting. I once lived for a short time (about a week) helping in a bone cave excavation in Kentucky . It was a bit creepy and not at all loaded with conveniences (Especially when we had to truck EVERYTHING in and out.
.
I wouldn't put spending Christmas in a cave as something Id put on my bucket list (maybe my fucket list).

Wassau won't be beaten - he's had someone dig into the hill at the back of the coffee house and - hey presto - a cave! Fine dining anyone? He's taking reservations for the New Year right now.

About time for me to make some of the Carol Field recipe Panettone, to share.
Of course I vary it - I use my own candied orange peel, no store citron stuff, and whatever dried fruit I have lurking about. I make it in Pandoro pans, so it comes out looking like this - well, pretty much. Very good toasted, needs no (more) butter.

@firefly,
Happy New Year, firefly, and to everybody else at the coffee house.

And for all first-footers, a lump of coal, a pinch of salt, a bottle of whisky and a hunk of bread.

@vonny,
I had to look up what a "first-footer" is, I've never heard the term before.
Quote:
In Scottish and Northern English folklore, the first-foot, also known in Manx Gaelic as quaaltagh or qualtagh, is the first person to enter the household of a home on New Year's Day and a bringer of good fortune for the coming year.

The first-foot usually brings several gifts, including perhaps a coin (silver is considered good luck), bread, salt, coal, or a drink (usually whisky), which respectively represent financial prosperity, food, flavour, warmth, and good cheer.

Well, I guess that makes me the first-footer in our café in the New Year. Smile

I brought the gifts you pointed out I need
http://geeknation.com/Content/Blogs/12_2012/new_year_traditions_1.jpg

I'll add a U.S. silver dollar coin to the other traditional gifts in the picture, to bring everyone good luck and prosperity in the New Year.

http://www.belleaircoins.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/silver_dollar.jpg

And, just to insure a sweet year, I'll bring some Baklava for everyone.

http://www.panacomp.net/galerija_slika/gastronomija/baklava-balkava.jpg

I hope that I've performed my first-footer duties well, and that 'I've assured everyone here good fortune in the New Year.

Happy New Year, everyone!
