@vonny,
Oh, the aroma of brewing coffee is heavenly. Smile

I need a little pick-me-up about now. And something warm--I just came back from shopping, and it's chilly and quite breezy out. Not as bad as earlier in the week when we were really in the deep freeze, but chilly enough to make that hot coffee very appealing. Particularly with some blueberry coffee cake to keep it company.

@firefly,
That looks - and smells - absolutely delicious. I must come here more often. Don't think I've ever had blueberry coffee cake - sounds amazing. Wassau seems to have a good selection of cakes on offer today.

Not so sure about his maple and bacon muffins though - are they considered sweet or savoury items?

Where has everybody gone? Sooooooooo quiet - too quiet. This used to be a great place for discussion - why is it deserted now?

@firefly,
When we used to be doing field work we always had acook tents nd 2 cooks. As I recall, coffee perking would smell great but taste just awful. Do percolators just distill the essential flavors right out of the brew? Then all they do is make the cook tent smell wonderful.

I recall from our purser that we used to stock up on a canned coffee called BOKAR. Hve no idea of its origins (probably came from some local supermarkets)

@farmerman,
Quote:
Bokar Coffee was a dark roasted coffee brand of Eight O'Clock Coffee, which began being sold by the American supermarket chain A&P in 1919.

Eight O'Clock's Bokar blend is described on their website as follows: "A select blend of 100% Arabica coffee beans, named for two famous coffee-producing areas in Colombia: Bogota and Cartagena. When ground extra fine, makes a spectacular espresso."

The brand itself no longer exists, nor has it for years, but there is a "Bokar Blend" variety of Eight O'Clock Coffee available.

You want answers, you got them Von the investigator found it Smile

Ah Sturgis I knew you would share thank you Smile And, all this cake and coffee is making me want another coffee but now a piece of cake, don't mind if I do.

What field work farmerman, prey tell please... Sounds interesting. Why do all Americans love perculated coffee and so much of it?

@FOUND SOUL,
I like forms of espresso, but my old espresso machine is gone with the wind - with latte in the morning, a cappucino later on, or a macchiato, sometimes straight espresso with a little of the crema on top. No damned milk foam, just steamed, per favore. I don't get these often, the good coffee place is way across town. I need to go back to using my little stove top... instead of my boring small drip cheap thing.

similar to this stovetop -

would have to invest in better beans but probably would use less over time.

(haven't used a percolator in a million years, don't know anyone who does, but I can get farmerman using them in field work)

@vonny,
I drink Nescafé vonny. I figured that they sell so much of it that they must have boffins some where who scientifically study what is most pleasing to the human senses.

I tend to think that the more expensive brands are appealing to snobbery rather than the senses. That a certain social cachet is attached to them.

One can easily see that if a particular bean imparted a flavour which the public approved of that Nescafé could outbid upstarts for the whole crop. As is done with potatoes.

I like it best in papier-mâché containers because they are the cheapest. I empty them into a posh coffee jar I've had for years to impress visitors who occasionally call in. When nobody's looking obviously.

@spendius,
Nescafe and papier mache containers - pah! That's inverted snobbery, surely!
