I'm getting worried about Lola. She hasn't been into the coffee house for quite a while now. Anybody now what's up?

@firefly,
No, it's not just you, ff. The great bulk of the membership list consists of people who have registered, posted one or two posts, then disappear forever. We hard-core A2kers are a relatively small handful of regulars who keep each other entertained.

If this site has so many active members, how come I keep encountering the same relatively small group of posters no matter which thread I go to?

There just isn't much novelty or surprise at A2K any more. It just seems like same old, same old.

If that is a complaint it runs counter to Jane Austen's advice on creative writing. "Same old, same old" allows detailed psychological explorations of character which constant novelty fails to do.

You must prefer tabloid superficiality. Perhaps you steer away from detailed psychological explorations for some reason. You must be a city person. Anonymity wrapped in a shell of gushing bonhomie.

From things she has said I imagine she has had a difficult time recently. It would be impolite to enquire further.

Just wanted to be the first to jump in here and let y'all know that the royal baby will be named George Alexander Louis. That's just in.

What's that? 'Who cares?' Well, not I, certainly, but it's been a topic of conversation lately, yes?

@Lustig Andrei,
There's an awful lot of stuff not to care about Andy.

Picking that one out suggests you do care to some extent if only to use it to point out your position above the lowing herd.

@spendius,
I don't think it's that, Spendi. It's just that, as a former newspaper man, I always want to be first with the inside story. I don't give a tinker's damn personally about who's diddling whom, but I want to be the first to spread the ugly story all over the front page. It's a character failing, I know, but there it is.

@izzythepush,
Oh, but that's a different thread, a foreign territory so to speak. I never go to that venue unless there's a specific event to discuss, e.g. as Dutchy's hospitalization. What matters is that I was the first to carry the news to Lola's Coffee klatsch shoppe.

@Lustig Andrei,
It was still very old news when you posted it Andy. I heard about it before I had my tea. When you posted, about 17 hours later, I'd had a good night's sleep and finished my breakfast.

@Lustig Andrei,
It's a money thing Andy. A conditioned reflex.

The ugly stories were not those involving any personal risk I assume.

Newspaper men, and women, are considered vermin here now.

Ah, the vagaries of time zones. It's just short of 3 a.m. where I am right now. So I posted right around 10:30 p.m.last night.

@firefly,
Delicious cake, thankee, ff. Who's quibbling? This is what passes for a friendly chat here at Lola's.
