Of my group of choices, Luke Donald and Hunter Mahan are ok, so far.

Good picks, osso. Donald is really on his game, in spite of missing a couple of birdies, and Mahan is looking good.

I feel, as the Open generally goes, it will come down to two or maybe three guys with three holes to play. In fact ... hold on ... just got a signal on my Ouija chip implant: tomorrow the leader in the club house will have a one-stroke margin while two guys out on the 17th are each one back. Didn't reveal who's who. Dang it! I'll miss the Sunday pitch-off again. Had my shoes all filed and polished.

No sooner did I choose Steve Stricker he took a double bogey.

And no sooner did you pick him than my guy went into freefall. I'm thinkin' of sendin' Senden home, or keepin' him in the locker room during the final round. I already sent Colsaerts to the dugout after he pulled that triple bogey and may leave him there.

Meanwhile, your and osso's guys are sitting in good shape, though Donald sorta blewup on 18. But he's only two back of Phil, while Stricker and Mahan are only one off.

Tough course. It reminds me of my backyard, except they've got a grounds crew to pick up trash.

Precisely what I plan to be doing. Watching golf is right up there with watching soccer or getting a brake job while you wait.

I would have preferred the course engineers discuss the drainage problems at MErion and how they had to comply with the new EPA storm water regulations.

@Debacle,
you could golf in my back yard, but you better hit straight.

the rough is at about 3 1/2 feet at the moment...

does John Daly still swig beer, smoke, and drive hell outta the ball?

Yes, do please bring photos of your trip and your birthday celebration within the trip. Have a good time. And think of us often.

I'm with you fm. Golf is not my game. I like fast games like racquetball.

@Debacle,
I've got a golf thread, and should have posted on it but was talking about the open with Spades on the baseball fantasy game and then answered you, and now I'm all golfed out for the day.

I pick about 15 people and not all because I am hoping they'll win, more that I'm just interested in them.

Drainage issues, I wouldn't mind hearing. ; )

'Fraid not, Rockhead. I'm not a golfer. Had a go at it once, but quit after 3 or 4 holes. Only managed to hit a couple of balls when I stepped on a bunker rake. Sort of stifled my enthusiasm. Merely a spectator now.

Couldn't tell you anything about Daly, haven't seen him playing, or doing anything else, for several years. He was a wreck, but he could damn sure drive a ball. Driving anything else was problematic. I 'spect he staggered over a few rakes in his time.

@Lola,
Nevertheless, not being born is the only certain path to immortality. As Richard Dawkins so optimistically wrote, "we are all going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones."

Racquetball is not fast Lola. It only looks fast to the untrained eye.

Quite the contrary. I consider golf to be the extreme of patricians isolating themselves from the "folk". Look at the membership requirements at MErion CC. It was late in the 20th century before that place was even desegregated.
Look at the clothes these clowns wear. Emmet Kelley was more conservatively accoutered.
golfers at MErion drink Gin Fizzes with Tangueray or Boodles.
You are the patrician wanna be and I kinda laugh at your accusations when you spnd about 30% of your posts talking about "The help". Im merely a happy farmer who loves the simple life. A good "Fast pitch".LEAGUE LEVEL soffball game in the summer is my sport of choice.

I doubt very much you'll find anyone outside America who'd agree with you.

@izzythepush,
SO? Its a totally small town American thing. You wouldn't understand the game. You wouldn't understand "corner ball" either.
Since when do sports necessarily need to cross cultures?

BTW,What does Cricket offer to spectators besides a way to get quietly hammered in public without drawing accusatory glances?

@farmerman,
Can you name a non-American sporting hero for American fans of NFL and baseball.

A cricket and football fan in the UK can name dozens of foreign sporting heroes.
