@Lola,
Lola, I want to talk about your comment but it delves to much and to close to politics - and, that never belongs here. You would know what I have to say anyways.

Get rid of the negatives and enjoy this time in your life. There is a lot of pressure on both mother and daughter and you have to help her. Keep a smile and enjoy - remember, you're not losing a daughter - you are gaining a son!

@BillW,
I think when I was near Oklahoma, don't recall the name of the place, their homes were something like $30k and a lot of people resided in non brick homes that can just be plonked on earth somewhere at $10k. Here in Australia, the cheapest house would be $200k pretty much.. Then again, I guess if we went 2 hours out of Adelaide, we'd find something for $120k but still a huge difference, (@ Spendius) .

That I think as a child Bill would be awesome to watch, no fear as a child. I am not sure as an Adult but I guess if I was 2-3 miles away, and could watch the beauty of nature, it would be an experience. Me,? I think I'd be spending most of the time though worrying about what animals or people were close to it, if not in trouble "in" it.

We have had a fair share of bush fires too, unfortunately, mostly lit by idiots .

That's easy Lola. It's anybody who wants to make a public spectacle of spending $0000s on a sack to hide the naughty bits they only wear once.

I can't understand why they don't staple their asset balance on their shirt front or décolletage and buy gold shares with the savings.

At a wedding the naughty bits are the be all and end all.

@spendius,
Well--that's not quite right. They used to be. I'm a bit old fashioned.

Some other game is underway these days but it is beyond my comprehension.

The rage to be photographed in admired postures maybe.

I agree. I think it makes sense to rent a dress. You can probably rent bridal gowns, can't you? You could rent a very expensive dress for probably not that much.

And some brides change out of the wedding dress for the reception, and put on something different. So, they're wearing the bridal gown for even less time.

I really wouldn't mind renting a dress. As long as I liked it, and it fit well, and I looked great in it, I wouldn't mind having it on loan rather than owning it. These things wind up getting packed away anyway.

I just searched and found this article that discusses renting a bridal gown.
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/26/fashion/weddings/26fiel.html?_r=0

And this one
http://nymag.com/shopping/guides/weddings/brides/features/2005/borrowed1.htm

And this place sells pre-owned bridal gowns

@BillW,
You should get a job ladling syrup Bill. Or nectar.

It's always safe on account of the popularity.

Get up to speed ff. You can rent wives now.

I would bet money that you would prefer a $50,000 bridal dress to be worn once than renting one. I would consider it stealing if I won money on a bet like that.

No, I really wouldn't. I think it's much too wasteful, even if I could easily afford to do that.

I'm not sentimental about things like that either.

Don't make the bet, spendi, you'd lose. I'd prefer to rent the $50,000 dress.

Why in the world would any sane person pay big bucks for a garment which they know they will only wear one time? It boggles the mind and imagination. I doubt that Spendi knows much about feminine psychology. He'd lose most of those bets. Women -- no matter how wealthy -- tend to be quite frugal. A normal woman would be far more likely to rent the gown but lie shamelessly about it and brag about how much it supposedly cost her, imo.

@firefly,
I wore a suit from Saks' sale rack, $75.00.

Well, there are weddings, and weddings. Much of muchness misplaced (to me).

@ossobuco,
I did go to a grand wedding where the bride wore one totally gorgeous dress. Not rented. But it wasn't all that large a wedding, given my memories of other people's weddings. I forget most of those other dresses.

@ossobuco,
My 50th Birthday dress, is emerald green satin cost me $7.99 from the op shop, the shoes are Italian antique silver lace, cost me $9.99 from the op shop.

My wedding dress next year? No more than $300 unless I can wear it again, which I probably can, because it won't be white, because well, um... Wink

Depends on where in Oklahoma you are. Small town real estate is much cheaper than the cities. Here in Tulsa, the median price for houses is $125K.

That said, statistics usually show that Tulsa and Oklahoma City have lower prices for houses than almost any other cities in the U.S. It's one of the reasons we haven't moved. We can live in a great neighborhood in a wonderful house for much less than it would cost anywhere else.
