@Eva,
I think you are about an hours drive from where I stayed as I know they travel to Tulsa.

Are there portable homes also in Tulsa? And, are they cheaper?

Where ever I was, it was lovely Wink

@FOUND SOUL,
We're in the part of Oklahoma that's green with lots of hills and rivers and lakes. I'm glad you got to see our part of the state!

"Portable" homes? Do you mean mobile homes? Yes, there are some here, and they are much cheaper because, as we say, "God hates mobile homes." (For some unknown reason, tornados always seem to hit mobile home parks.) I'm very glad I live in an older brick home with a basement.

This is true. When I moved from KS to AZ I traded tornados for ... dust storms. I'll take the occasional dust storm any day of the week. Wink

@Ticomaya,
And I traded Californian earthquakes and Santa Ana winds for Arizona duststorms and Tico for a neighbor. Good trade.

@Eva,
You would think as a Real Estate Agent I would know the terminology Wink But, it is different overseas.

Yes, Mobile homes.

I wasn't sure if it was just scattered here or there or if there was a demand for it, curiousity I guess...

I am glad to Eva, I got to see Oklahoma and neighbouring surrounds and the people, I have never in my life met such beautiful people, they still share my life today, all be it via facebook..

Yes, Mobile homes.

If that's the same as static caravans, then I love them! Had some great childhood holidays in our caravan on a farm near the sea in North-Northumberland. Had to put up with some primitive conditions in those days, but worth it to have such wonderful memories of beautiful but deserted beaches and fascinating country walks. Very basic accommodation, but for a child that all adds to the fun!

@vonny,
Can you post a photo Von?

I am not sure if they are the same. I think "mobile homes" are like portable, homes that are 3 bed, bath, open plan... Caravans in Aussie language are well, a caravan attached to a car on a tow bar? And, you sleep and cook and eat in them, etc, loo etc. Which I intend to own one , much further down the track and travel all the way across Australia, the only way to travel Smile

@FOUND SOUL,
Mobile homes are for the most part permanent when they are setup. The ones that are towed around by cars and pickup trucks are RV's (recreational vehicles). Mobile homes depreciation as time goes by unlike houses that appreciate. Walls are thin partion like things. Same as the floors. And the built in cabinets are so, so cheap.

and this one is called a double wide (two side by side)

here is an RV that is towed around:

@FOUND SOUL,
Ours was the type of caravan that can be towed round attached to a tow bar on a car - looked like a smaller version of the van in BillW's post. Sadly I don't have photos any more. It was meant to be towed, but we bought a piece of land on a farm, just a stone's throw away from the beach, and built sheds and a loo etc - it had a reasonable sized garden - great for weekends away from the city, or the occasional holiday in the UK - our 'hideaway'.

@vonny,
Don't they rock a bit and clatter all the utensils about during the final stages of the rumpy-pumpy?

Generally speaking, a 'mobile home' is a structure that once was a caravan intended to be towed behind a motor-powered vehicle, e.g. a car. But once it was decided to make a permanent residence out of it -- again, speaking in generalities -- the owners would take off the wheels, set the thing up on cement blocks or a similar foundation,and voila, it's now a permanent structure, not intended to be towed anywhere. Some folks add another room onto it, as though it were a regular house, or, at least a porch/veranda kind of addition. It's a small and compact residence but quite convenient and can be made very liveable.

I've never lived in one but have visited people who reside in such structures.
