@BillW,
Be well, kiddo.
From my not very large acquaintance, squid and octopus vary as comestibles.
The times I've eaten squid at neato places, it was not rubber bands. Probably similar to abalone, it takes a deft touch to do well.
One of the few times I ate octopus was at a tapas type place in the Santa Rosa area, name I now forget but would recognize, they've opened two other places highly regarded (and I watch); the octopus completely delectable. I was a moderate mess that day, going before an examiner board on our group proposed project, and what was I doing eating before hand, while just trying to breathe. (We all did ok and I have good octopus memories to boot).
I have run across squid rubber bands, but they were nothin' to the jellyfish at our wedding dinner. Only four of us ended up at the restaurant we all loved, the Twin Dragon, and where our friend, a chinese food maven extraordinaire, ordered all sorts of stuff. Only dish there that I ever tried and didn't like. But hey.
