@Lola,

Boundaries are necessary, if life is to be enjoyed, whether it's a liberal place or not. Mrs. Thatcher did make a few good decisions in her time; supporting health care for all is one huge one. She was, in my opinion, a tight ass with many mistaken values, but she did know a boundary and a need to protect it when she saw one.

So did Stalin. But neither could protect much without the historical accumulation of the forces at their disposal.

With absolute power it is possible to protect oneself from being looked at or touched. Civilised people try to negotiate boundaries.

That's what I did. I told him to sit down and shut up. And when he didn't do it, I decided to stop paying attention to him. And that's all I'm going to say about the incident.

That would be a mistake Lola. This thread has a trajectory. The problem is easy to overcome. And there's a good chance a new thread will do the same.

And having to shift all the tables and chairs and Washup's counter will be a real pain.

@spendius,
What works best is to check if your post has gone okay and if it hasn't to make an answer to another post on a previous page. After submitting that one the new page comes up seamlessly with no bumps, bangs or clouts.

Thatcher did not support health care for all. The British people did, she barely tolerated it. The NHS deteriorated drastically under her stewardship.

@spendius,
For a delightful change I agree with Spendius. We can deal with this.

I am supposing it will be fixed at some point along the future fixit lineage, whenever.

Then all, if any, future readers will wonder why all those people kept talking about bumps.

So right! The only reason to 'bump' is if you want to see your own previous response immediately in case it needs editing. Once somebody else has posted, you'll be able to click on his/her post without any need to bump, flip or otherwise hurry things up. This is just a very minor nuisance that the A2k hamsters don't seem to know how to fix.

What's with the bumping? Does it matter if the Thread is recently active? Is it a contest? Doesn't everyone just go to "My Posts"? Why can't everyone be like me?
Why don't I understand this?

Now there's a good idea. It sounds like it may work. I'll try it next time.

It doesn't always work. Sometimes you still have to wait for someone else to post first, then click on his name on the "My Posts" site.

You folks are weird. I'm with McTag on this one. The only way I navigate this site is through "My Posts." It's the first (and sometimes only) thing I click on when I come to A2k. From My Posts I can go to any thread that I'm involved in.

@ossobuco,
I click on My Posts nearly all the time. It shows me what's happening on the threads I'm engaged in.

If nothing much is happening I click on New Posts in the hope something interesting will appear at the top. I never scroll New Posts down. I sometimes did in the past but experience suggested it was a waste of time. "What started all this **** going" threads for example. Or "My little doggie took sick."

"The bastard is shagging my sister" threads I usually look into but rarely comment.

Anything interesting will soon appear at the top of the New Posts page.

That's the dynamic in a pub. Stick with the clique mostly but if a new floozie appears you will notice him or her before too long if you are patient.

And there's no rush about risking going over the edge.
