@MattDavis,

Agree - 100% - but I can't walk! Since the accident that crippled me, I've developed diabetes and osteo-arthritis, but I am able to use an exercise bike, a cross trainer (sitting), and do some weight training, but am unable to do all the simple things that used to be second nature - like walking, running, cycling, riding! Manuals on exercise tell you to run up and down stairs instead of using an escalator, or to walk to your destination instead of using a bus or car - all a bit useless to somebody like me! I use a mobility scooter and can get out and about to shops. or the park with my dog, but none of it really compensates for the stuff I can no longer do.
However, I do stay relatively fit and my diabetes is controlled by diet only - no medication, even after fourteen years - and I put this down to a fairly healthy diet, eating a lot of fruit and vegetables, lots of fish and no red meat, only chicken or turkey breast. The only sweet things I eat are virtual ones - in reality I don't eat any cakes or biscuits at all! But I do want to lose weight, and to get as fit as possible, so am turning to more and more things like dairy substitutes.
