I personally don't see friendly banter and platonic texting between two consenting adults not currently in a relationship (some people do consider that cheating) to constitute as cheating but with explicit sexual texts then it does turn into an affair. Technically, it's called emotional cheating so yes it's cheating if you sex text to a third party individual.

In my opinion, it depends on what the couple has agreed to - and couples definitely need to discuss their boundaries upfront - before there are questions like this.

so my bottom line on this question is - what I think doesn't matter.
