@JPB,
Remember JP that the $30 billion will be spent, probably as soon as it is received, on goods manufactured, delivered and advertised by, mostly, Rs.

@JPB,
What I think will happen is another fudge where Mr Obama gets to save 2.5% more of his face than Mr Boehner. That seems fair enough.

No! If the benfits are not extended the unemployed might be forced to take any job they can get and stop belly-aching about it. It is what it is, afterall.

Didn't someone recently receive a Nobel Prize in Econ for proving that as along as unemployment benefits remain in effect and available to the unemployed, those without jobs will remain unemployed?

@Miller,
Some American academic came here a while back making waves with that line of thinking. He got humiliated.

@spendius,
I'm for paying at least half the workforce 2/3 salary to stay in bed all day. They would be less of a nuisance and the money saved would be a useful bonus.

This could be possibly true but it does not mean that you are sane.

We all have different types of problems that we deal with.

No. Why would you even think such a thing?

The only Nobel winner I can find who dealt with economics unemployment is Peter Diamond and he found that unemployment is tied to the economy in a Keynesian way if I can believe another Nobel prize winners assessment of it.
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/11/what-we-learn-from-search-models/

The interesting thing is that the GOP blocked Diamond from being appointed to the Fed board. I hardly doubt they would have done so if he came to the crackpot conclusion you just stated.

@Rockhead,
Mizz Miller doesn't know what she's talking about most of the time. Better to have her on Ignore. Reading her posts are a waste of time, and she's unnecessarily aggressive when it's not needed.

Tom Tomorrow, Gary Trudeau and the person who does "Non Sequitur" are three people who can really capture the essence of the US in a few frames.
