The Bill Wilson to whom this thread refers is a co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous and the writer of its basic text, Alcoholics Anonymous.
Bill Wilson is not to be confused with the A2k BillW.
Although I'm sure he is a fine gentleman, in his own right.
Thanks williamhenry for pointing that out, I always forget that - and it has risen its head on this thread before! The name is just a coincidence.....
I had a fairly severe alcohol and drug problem in the seventies, (well the sixties and eighties, too) but now I'm happy to report that I'm doing well and can afford this stuff just fine.
SECURITY!!!.....Get 'em outta" here!
BPB, remember where we are if you ever need us, LOL
william henry I was just kidding around, and didn't mean to rub you the wrong way. For all my joking around, I am only a moderate social drinker, and gave up drugs long ago. (well, just about)
I don't think williamhenry was rubbed the wrong way BPB, he was relating our reality. If you need us, you know where we are, if you don't - congratulations!
This is a very open meeting and we appreciate all comments and humor.

BillW is correct. You did not rub me the wrong way at all. I continue to have friendships with people who drink alcohol and see no harm whatsoever in them doing so.
Drinking alcohol is something I did with horrendous results both to myself and my personal life. This went on for 23 years. So, it finally dawned on me that alcohol was the cause of many woes in my life. I was, thankfully,
able to give it up almost 17 years ago.
This was through the help of hundreds of members of Alcoholics Anonymous, many of whom never knew how helpful they were to me.
Briefly, this was my story with alcohol. Millions of people can around the world can use alcohol in a manner which does not cause peronal devastation. You are one of those people, but I am not.
BPB,
...I can remember years ago someone asking me if I had a drug problem. My reply, "Hell no, they don't give me any trouble at all"

I'm sure most of us have memories like that. (Now don't let that scare you. :wink: }

I think you have been around drunks and addicts long enough to know that what you describe above is called denial.
That's the word my Brother. We all go down that very large river.
of course none of us count pot as a drug, right? right? oh please God, right?
BPB, read about 17 responses earlier. My ex died on March 9th, she was in and out of AA for 20 years and always lived on a marijuana maintanence program.

In my younger days, I gave marijuana a try. It was a pretty good high, but it gave me an overwhelming sense of paranoia while using it. So, I
stayed with my drugs of choice: alcohol and nicotine.
Whether or not a person becomes addicted to marijuana, I think, depends on the person. I, for example, could have never become a pot addict because of the funny way it made me feel.
Some practitioners in the addiction field will argue that marijuana is a "gateway" drug. That is, using it will lead the user to more potent drugs such as heroine or cocaine. Whether or not marijuana is a gateway drug is a topic for a physician or drug counselor to answer.
The body ingests two things, food and drugs.....Also whatever is a person's drug of choice, is usually, "not really a drug", or "not as bad as the other drugs".
Booman I disagree. there are several drugs I really love, but I gave them up years ago because they were impractical and/or unhealthy.
The pot though, no problem.
