@hawkeye10,
You've not lied, I don't doubt you think you're a Zen master, but it's clear you're not. You're way too thick for that, you make stupid mistakes and don't pick up on the simplest of jokes. You have a profound lack of understanding about most political, social, economic and international issues.

And you don't know what Socialism is either.

So you're not a liar, you're an idiot.

And if your restaurant is subject to a customer boycott, it will be because you're an idiot.

I will still boycott Walmart. They only offer domestic partner benefits in states where it is required by law. They choose not to in other states.

Not to defend Walmart, but the reason they dont extend domestic partner benefits in states where it isn't mandatory is their bottom line. If they don't have to take on the expense they won't. It not about discrimination; it's about miserly, skinflinty capitalism. That's how they're so good at selling so low.

The Jim Henson Company has severed relations with Chickfila. They've announced they will no longer supply Muppets characters for the company's kids' meals. The Henson CEO, Lisa Henson, is a supporter of same sex marriage. Way to go, Kermit, you rock.

I won't eat at Maurice's - a local BBQ establishment. He was very vocal about not taking the Confd. Flag down from the state house a few years ago. Made quite an ass out of himself. Also one of those Christians that uses his faith to 'promote' his business.

I don't like mustard bbq anyway.

I will no longer eat at a Chik-fil-a. Whatever the hell that is.
I no longer donate to the Salvation Army which breaks my heart.
Not a nickel to the Boys Scouts of America.

Citarella (Greenwich Village grocery store) locked out some striking low-wage workers about ten years ago. I haven't been in the place since.

If I go to a Home Depot, you'll know, because there will be black heel marks all the way along the sidewalk, through the store and over to the check-out line as I would have to dragged the entire way. (Bastids)

But the same goes for those of us who support same-sex marriage and have what we consider to be a broader view of civil rights. We should boycott Chick-fil-A. These are our consumer dollars—and they're part of our voice. We should use them for products we like—to support companies we like and to back causes we like.

As good as those Chick-fil-A lunches used to taste, there are other places to get a chicken sandwich.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be writing more about companies whose leaders use corporate profits to support their conservative world view. I have no problem with that. In fact, I applaud their involvement in politics.

But those of us who disagree have to remember that we too can exercise our rights, flex our muscles, and show our commitment to the values we believe in, from how we spend our consumer dollars to how we chose the companies we invest in, to, of course, how we vote in elections. All of these are levers that every citizen should use.

Sounds right, and we also have the right to choose to spend our time and spend our money only with those who are politically like us, but that is not a very productive idea in a society where the people are supposed to be free and where the people are as different as Americans are. A strong case can be made that Americans are already too insular and also ignorant of others who are not like use. Perhaps it is time to consider spending less energy trying to force others to become like us and more on trying to work with others who are not like us. The continual culture wars seem to be getting American to no place good....perhaps Spitz is right that we have the right to engage in them but we are also stupid if we do.

@hawkeye10,
Never ate at Chick-Fil-A, and probably never will. Not because of their politics, but because there are plenty of other chicken restaurants that I prefer and frequent.

@cicerone imposter,
Likewise....I have seen the commercials very occasionally but cant recall ever seeing an actual store. I dont eat chick sandwiches from the fast food places...maybe McD's once. I am all about the burgers with an occasional fish or McRibb.

re hawkeye,
oddly enough a couple months ago I had a McRibs in Baden Baden, Germany, since the Mickey D's there was the only thing open late after the thermal hot springs spas closed for the night. It was doing land office business with the Germans. You really do kinda feel like you're not getting the full experience when you travel four thousand miles and still end up eating the same old American fast food. It wasn't a really great McRibs, either.

When I can help it, I will not shop in stores that have succumbed, in terms of their advertising, to the pressures of left-wing groups.

I doubt the absence of my custom at Walgrens will bring that corporation down, but I feel good about it.

Boycott away!

It's a fair expression of your beliefs.

For the second month in a row, religious conservative organization One Million Moms is calling on mothers nationwide to boycott JC Penney. This time it’s for a Father’s Day ad featuring a gay couple and their children that the retail giant printed on its June catalog.

“JCP is continuing down the same path of promoting sin in their advertisements,” OMM wrote on their website.

At some point, and I think we are near it already, all this cross boycotting does is make life less pleasant and more exhausting. It is getting too much like trying to follow the fad of the day in our little social groups. I did enough of that trying to be cool in High School, my patience for it now is minimal.

All right, I give up, I can see I'm going to have to start buying stuff at Walgreen's, even though it's not my drugstore of choice, to cancel out your boycott. But I have no idea what they did to arouse your ire. What? Or is Walgrens something else entirely that we don't have around here?

@MontereyJack,
It's not a boycott with me, but I avoid Walgreens just on price. I have two prescriptions I can get filled for 90 days at Target, WalMart and at the pharmacies of two grocery stores for $16.00 total for both. Walgreens? About $65.00. I guess avoiding Walgreens is my political and social statement for the year.

@MontereyJack,
After the muppets pulled out of Chick Fil A because of their anti gay stance Chick Fil A lies and pulls this fast one. I think the muppets should sue their ass for this lie!
