@Setanta,
This whole discussion seems sort of trivial, but at the risk of harping on a dead a horse (mixed metaphors?); were not the early Scots known for rieving both other clans and the English borders?

Was the difference in the violence and raping of women? If so I understand your point. I don't pretend to know history, so I don't really know if the Scottish people were violent to that extent or not.

@OmSigDAVID,
"Viking" is a verb.

@revelette,
The Scots are called the Scots becaue they are descended from the Irish. I'm not going to open that particular can of worms. At the risk of reminding you how incoherent you seem to be, i'll just point out that David wants to make the "Vikings" out to have been admirable people, and that is a position from which i dissent. I've absolutely no interest in a game of one-upmanship about which bands of raiders were the most scurrilous--it's beside the point i was making.

@Setanta,
Before you get in too much of a snit, I'll bow out of a discussion I guess I had no reason or invitation to be in the first place.

To tell truth, I didn't even read you all discsssion, still haven't. I was just mildly curious about the subject matter of vikings I guess.

Anyway, according to my admittedly poor sourced article, sometimes they pillaged and raped but sometimes they traded peacefully. It sounds like it might be true.

and from other definitions found at Set's sources, Viking simply means Scandinavian.

Does that really happen - does the US actually train death squads? It all seems so unlikely, impossible really.

NO. Thay were radicals.
Thay eradicated the English monarchy
from North America (except for Canadia).

I never said nor implied that no one shud ever deviate
from anything. I APPROVED when Boris Yeltsin deviated from communism.

Nothing much has changed since then, Om. Successive US governments have been radical war criminals/terrorists/depraved monsters that have preyed on the poor, the innocent of the world. But this is something that you approve of, right?
