@cicerone imposter,
Romney's not running for president of Briton. I think he is a politician who lies when it suits his purpose just like almost every one of them that I can think of.

@Thomas,
It's not what you said, and Romney doesn't have a clue. Group 4S may not have been ready, that's the private sector for you, but London is ready, the troops are mobilised, they know what to do.

What suggestions do you have to make it safer? Maybe we should allow terrorists to buy automatic weapons and thousands of rounds over the internet. Isn't that the sort of 'society' Romney supports?

My suggestion is, stop holding Olympic games, in London or Salt Lake City or anywhere. They're a waste of money anyway. But maybe that's a topic for some other thread.

@RABEL222,
You seem to miss the whole point; Romney is already known as a perpetual liar, and he's running for the presidency of the US.

His self-proclaimed skills in foreign affairs just doesn't exist.

According to many polls, Romney is running neck-and-neck with Obama.

In my world, that's a DUH!

@Thomas,
Anything else that people enjoy you'd like to do away with?

What about Christmas, or theme parks? Perhaps you could do away with cinema altogether, that would keep the bodycount down.

Yeah.... that's like, a real cogent idea based in the realm of things that might actually potentially happen in real life.

Yup, that's about as likely to happen as the media stopping their practice of lobbing softballs.

That's pretty much what you told me when I suggested, in Sozobe's Obama thread, that America was likely to elect its first Black president in 2008. You don't seem to be so good at judging what's realistic and what isn't---and neither is anybody else.

There probably are still a few people alive who were born into a world without Olympic games. I may yet die in a world that has rid itself of this foolish nuisance.

@Thomas,
I don't think most sports event will disappear any time soon.

The game of golf; hit a small white ball with an iron or wood into a small hole.

Soccer; kick the ball into a net.

Tennis; hit a ball with a racket within boundaries to see who misses first.

Nah, sports will be we us for a very long time.

@cicerone imposter,
According to the NYT, Romney's criticism of Obama's handling of foreign affairs is all rhetoric and no substance. He's not provided any detail on how he would have handled any situation differently, or how he will handle future problems.

A loose gun without any bullets.

Sometimes you're such a petulant little twit when someone disagrees with you, Thomas. That's not at all like what I told you about Obama's chances. I had the same very understandable doubts about this country's ability to look past the man's race that millions of others did, until he won the Iowa primary. Doubts totally based in the reality of recorded history. Quite a reach for you to bring that up now. Your musings about "a world without Olympic games" are based on disgruntled shyt that resides between your ears.

Why don't you just try a little harder to think of something to say about Romney's prospects in 2012 instead of whatever contrarian bullshyt you're doing?

I see in the news this morning that Romney is rattling his (ours) sabers over Iran. Saying we cannot allow a nuclear Iran. While I would not want to see Iran with Nuclear weapons, I would not want to see us go to war, no doubt a bigger one that the last two, over it. Does anyone see the damage unfunded wars and tax cuts for the rich do to our economy? We can't find money to fix our highways or to invest in education, but wars, no problem.

@IRFRANK,
That's the problem with conservatives; they love to rattle our sabers, but don't want to pay for it. Look at what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan. I also fault Obama for extending the troop level in Afghanistan by 50,000; can't they see the damage they do to our young people? Many are committing suicide.

Romney and the conservatives are a danger to our country; they don't know what's important to our country.

They don't care if we continue to reduce funding for our schools and infrastructure, but don't ever think about increasing taxes to support them. Continue to give tax breaks to the rich, so our children and grandchildren will be left with the huge deficit/national debt.

Right. Of course the deficit is all caused by our excessive spending on welfare programs.

@IRFRANK,
After his insults at the Olympics, and his apparant willingness to endorse a pre-emptive strike on Iran by Israel, his presidency will be treated with dismay by Europe, left and right.

He seems more of a chancer than W. God help us if there's any confrontation with China.

That's true; and congress has the knowledge, but doesn't act on it whether it's democrats or republicans.

Hopeless.

Romney ladled out a lot of praise for the Israeli health care system, somehow without seeming to notice the similarities between their system and others than he regularly trashes. And I doubt that the GOP in Congress would approve a single one of the things that Israel does to keep costs down, either.

Ironic, and sort of sad at the same time.
