@tsarstepan,
Can Florida go at least a few days without being a depressing embarrassment? First, someone decides to spread metal tacks all over the Courtney Campbell Trail bridge just to screw with bicyclists. Was it kids or was it dumb adult rednecks? Hard to tell in Florida. Then a 71-year-old retired police captain shoots and kills a 43-year-old man after an argument over texting during the previews of a movie. This is why I hate the demonization of texting. Some restaurants even ban it. Not talking on the phone, just texting. When you turn texting during a movie into some sort of inhuman crime, it sets off crazy people like this because they think they're doing a public service.

The shooter and the victim were both white. At least that spares us the typical Florida racist ranting.

Ex-Cop Arrested for Fatal Shooting Over Texting at the Movies

Authorities in Pasco County Florida say that 71-year-old Curtis Reeves shot Chad Oulson and his wife Nichole during a screening of the Mark Wahlberg movie Lone Survivor after an argument that stemmed from Reeves asking Ouslon to stop texting.

Reeves reportedly shot the couple at Cobb Theater’s Grove 16 in Wesley Chapel, Fla. near Tampa, before being subdued by an onlooker According to the AP, Chad Oulson, 43,was shot in his chest and his wife was shot in her hand.. Chad was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while his wife was injured but will survive.

St. Pete man arrested in attack on neighbor

Quote:
ST. PETERSBURG – An 18-year-old man burst into his neighbor’s house and attacked him, biting his face, hands and neck, and yelling that he wanted to eat his eyeballs, authorities said.

Brandon Davis screamed at the victim, Nicholas Sorace, 55, saying Sorace was the devil, St. Petersburg police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

Sorace’s female partner ran to a neighbor’s house to call police, and the attack was still under way when officers arrived at Sorace’s house at 7900 12th Ave. S. about 2 a.m. Sunday, Puetz said.

It took four officers to subdue Davis, who they shot twice with an electric stun gun, Puetz said. Davis bit one of the officers in the hand.

Davis’ family told investigators that some of his acquaintances said he may have taken hallucinogenic drugs, Puetz said.

Davis, of 1226 79th St. S., was under guard at Bayfront Health System, previously known as Bayfront Medical Center. He faces charges of attempted murder, burglary assault and resisting arrest with violence.

The attack began after Sorace heard noises outside and went to investigate, Puetz said. He found Davis beating a dog, Davis then turned toward Sorace and approached him, Puetz said. Sorace retreated into his house and locked the door.

Davis tried to get in by smashing a window, then he kicked in the front door. Sorace’s partner then ran out back.

Davis started beating and biting Sorace, yelling that Sorace was the devil and muttering some things about Jesus Christ, Puetz said. He picked up a ceramic planter and struck Sorace in the head while straddling him.

He also tried to gouge Sorace’s eyes, yelling he wanted to eat them, Puetz said.

MIAMI (AP) — Facing a House ethics investigation, the Florida congressman who pleaded guilty to cocaine-possession charges last year will resign, his top aide said Monday, after several GOP leaders requested that he step down.

Not picking on the GOP but this guys had cojones to be trumpeting Tea Party tag-lines while the DEA was working on his arraignment.

Diners at eight Gator’s Dockside casual eateries are finding a 1% Affordable Care Act surcharge on their tabs, which comes to 15 cents on a typical $15 lunch tab. Signs on the door and at tables alert diners to the fee, which is also listed separately on the bill.
15 cents? To cover the health insurance for all the help?
Doesn't sound bad...
But wait a minute!
The employer mandate doesn't go into effect for another year!
What a scam!

@panzade,
Why a scam? There were lots of charges for ACA before it went into effect, too.

@roger,
So if Gators was charging 8% for a state sales tax that is only 6% you wouldn't call it a scam?
