@Joe Nation,
Yeah, Carl Hiaasen rocks. I've read, I dunno, half a dozen of his books. He's terribly ecologically-minded and yet somehow doesn't strike you as a "tree-hugger."
@Ticomaya,
The Google strikes again!
Quote:A couple from Florida (where else?) have been tied to a murder after hundreds of text messages, Facebook messages, and Google searches revealed that they had turned to the Internet to find out how to craft an alibi as well as communicate to each other various ways to carry out the murder of Juliana Mensch, a 19 year old roommate of the couple. James Ayers, 32, was arrested a few days ago after apparently confessing to a friend. His girlfriend Nicole Okrzesik, 23, was arrested soon after yet blamed the murder on Ayers. And then the police checked their phones.
Turns out that Okzresik had extensively Googled how to kill someone the night of the murder. The Broward/Palm Beach New Times has links to everything she did on her phone that night (they even have the text messages.)

@boomerang,
This is almost too bizarre to be believed.
@Lustig Andrei,
Not in New York though, they just busted about ten members of a street gang who were posting their successes at burglary on Facebook.

@Joe Nation,
How did the cops find out? Had a gang member friended her parole officer?
@Joe Nation,
Well, when I was teaching jd's in custody and detention in Boston, I discovered that just about all the street gangs in Boston have acccounts on FaceBook and/or MySpace.
Lustig(I am neither Crip norBlood) Andrei
@Thomas,
Nope. A local beat cop searched through some known names, sent out friend requests and got a couple. Then he sat back and watched as the guys filled out their Timelines as Crimelines.

Why were those lawyers in custody, MA?
@Ticomaya,
Maybe they were criminal lawyers.
@Ticomaya,
jd=juvenile delinquent, not
juris doctor. Sorry 'bout that, Tico.
Florida is weird in general. Rick Scott and Florida Republicans in general are such dipshits.
They are now suing the federal government in an attempt to continue purging voters ahead of the election. They originally identified 182,000 potential non-citizen voters. That list (because it was probably insane) was reduced to 2,600. So far elections supervisors have found HUNDREDS of people on a list of only 2,600 who are, in fact, LEGAL VOTERS. Wow... what a surprise. I know it was 12 years ago but remember when Florida fucked the nation in 2000? Don't let it happen again!

Nope ... Florida NEARLY fucked the country. Thankfully, we were saved from Goredom.
@Ticomaya,
Gov. Scott’s voter purge was only the latest in a series of events “that reveal a near-total breakdown of the rule of law in Florida,” the U.N. spokesperson said.

Hysterical................if it werent so close to the truth!
Quote:NEW YORK (The Borowitz Report) – Calling the status of democracy in the Sunshine State “fragile at best,” the United Nations met in emergency session today to declare Florida a rogue state.
The actions by Florida Gov. Rick Scott to purge the voter rolls in his state might have inspired the vote by the U.N., but as the spokesperson for the U.N. Secretary-General said, “We’ve had problems with elections in Florida before.”
@boomerang,
From the comments section:
Quote:"Why do most of the crazies seem to be in FL?"
Have you ever noticed how the nuts in a box of Cracker Jack tend to settle at the bottom of the box? It's the same thing, only different.
@Ticomaya,
I was going to throw California in the hat as a contender, but I've reconsidered.
