@edgarblythe,
Me too! I just feel something isn’t right, he eats a lot but he doesn’t have a lot of energy and he’s not gaining weight at all. When you pet him he still feels like skin and bones. At first he seemed to be doing better, seemed healthier, gained a little weight but has lost it now.

@jcboy,
ahh poor Smokey. I hope he's just got some minor thing going on and some meds will help out. It is so hard when our animal friends don't feel well.

I had the other two cats since I was 12 years old; they played like kittens almost to the end. Smokey doesn’t play at all.

I can tell something is wrong, I’ve noticed for a while now he doesn’t open his eyes all the way like the other two did, he just kind of squints. At first I thought maybe he was just nervous because of the dogs but that’s not it, the dogs just ignore him and now Smokey will walk across the room when they’re around so it’s not that.

Maybe it’s something simple that the Vet can take care of so I’m taking him in first thing tomorrow morning.

@jcboy,
Good. Let us know.

I had a scare a couple of days ago, re Katy, who could be called elderly but I won't.
Pee... appeared in the back hall. What? She ran out the door extra fast.
We have our routines, which involve my always responding when she nose touches. Occasionally this just means she wants to check the yard for aggressors or neighbors to bark at, but it's also the signal for gotta go now.

I went through the whole scenario in a minute - she has diabetes! she has a tumor of the pineal gland! (I don't even know if dogs have those). She went out about six times in 45 minutes, all pee. Egads alive.

Not long later I remembered I'd super filled her bowls of water, which I don't usually do. I will have to watch her thirst more closely, but so far so good, normal intake and output, that was a one time thing. I'm also going to make my dog biscuits smaller - they may be on the dry side.

Hoping for the best for Smokey.

Well Morgan took Smokey to the Vet, they took some blood to have it tested. The Vet said no way of telling until they get the results back. But he did say Smokey has symptoms of the feline leukemia virus. The Vet isn’t prescribing anything until the test results are in. Caught early and it can be treated,

Of course Morgan has the intensive cat care ward set up in the house.

If Smokey had something that wasn’t treatable and he was suffering I would have him put down but I won’t if he can be saved with treatment.

I’m hoping it will just be some virus that’s treatable. He still eats good so that’s a good sign.

@jcboy,
feline leukemia is a hard road.

I hope he has something else...

@Rockhead,
That’s what the Vet said, but he did say it’s harder on kittens most don’t survive. Smokey is probably close to two years old. His temperature was normal and they did an x-ray and no tumors or anything like that so that’s a good thing.

@jcboy,
JC.

I feel for you, given I have a diabetic husky, a hush puppy that is in remission for cancer and little Miss, you know of, which prob has UTI at 17 and a cancerous lump that is OK for now...

But.

Bigsy is like Smokey a cat I saved, a cat you saved. When we save animals and you and I have that in common, they walk our path, we take them in, it would be hard to believe that we did it so that they just had someone at the end. Sheez, Missy was diagnosed with a liver disease, 10 or so years ago I was told to take her home..... pftttt. 3 months of hand feeding her, 17 next month bless her.

Without the blood test they can only speculate. But I bet he's a fighter like Missy regardless. And, I bet he feels love which seems to defeat Vets. And, and, and, eating well is the first sign that what ever, I'm not going no where... Missy still eats like a champ...

Don't forget I have a wabbit... and he uses a kitty litter and he's a good boy Smile

@FOUND SOUL,
Smokey’s test results came back today; negative for the feline leukemia virus and everything else is normal, couldn't find anything wrong with him. The Vet suggested I mix his adult cat food with the kitten food and see if he gains some weight. Maybe he’s just an oddball cat that doesn’t like to play.

His eyes have been looking a little better now so maybe it’s nothing. I'm still glad I took him, when in doubt!

@jcboy,
Oh I was going to tell you about the rabbit. My old neighbor Gilbert told me the two lesbians that rented the house next door have it in their backyard. They’ve been keeping it as a pet!

I’ll bet the butch one tackled that rabbit to the ground and caged him! Cool

@jcboy,
LMAO... on the last note... Smile At least they aren't planning on wabbit stew Shocked

Myth. You can feed your cat human food, as long as it's lean and good for them..

I've soon worked out that cat food is the best, Bigs has a weak stomach would throw up after even eating chicken... The vets swear they need two things, canned food (he won't eat meat) so fish it is, and dry bits. I imagine the dry bits is for their teeth.. So Bigs gets canned at night, bits in the morning and he was a fat boy when he first got to me, eating every cats food in the neighbourhood but now he is very lean, fortunately not mean... Smokey could still be finding his way, knowing he's safe have you tried different games, toys, fur mice, a ball of wool? And are the dogs near him when you try to play? My cat is sceptical as he should be around one of my dogs.

It figures he would find a hypochondriac cat. I’ll bet that cat had no symptoms at all. Just like him. This is how he is! “Oh I have a cold, I better go see my doctor or have Marco prescribe me an antibiotic or something, I could be seriously sick.”

What a weirdo!

@EqualityFLSTPete,
Don't you dare throw antibiotics at him, bad move.
I noticed that last time - not sure by whom - and now I'll speak up.

Big no no, immunologically. BIG NONO. Less than useful.

Read up on the trouble people throwing antibiotics (may work on bacteria) at a virus may cause in the long run. Please.
