this September it will be TEN YEARS! Add on the 3 or so years that I was on Abuzz, and I realized that I have been hanging out with you guys for over 13 years.

Those are almost exactly the same numbers for me.

I've learned a lot over the last decade or so, especially in my interactions online and in debate. How much of that comes from A2K and how much just from being a decade older, I'm not sure.

I joined a2k Nov 5, 2002. I was reluctant to leave Abuzz, but most of my friends had already moved here. I hate it that many have migrated to facebook.

@Walter Hinteler,
Ah, you know what they say about "great minds". Very Happy I too post less, but read certain threads all the time.

That's my start date. Almost 5 years. I have never been in an online community that long.

My world is a much bigger place these days.

I can't exactly remember how long I was a member of Abuzz. A year or a year and a half perhaps.

You must have stopped posting at Abuzz a fair bit before the end. You were already in the inner circle at Abuzz when I joined.

2004 was a banner year here. I came along on March 30th.
I read my favorite threads and posters daily but I don't post as much.

I came here in November 2002. I was on abuzz for quite a while.

I don't start as many threads as I used to. Don't post as much. But I'm here and reading.

Made a lot of friends here. And the people here helped me get through some horrendous times.

I arrived on Bastille Day 2005, so I'm moving towards 7 years.

@Phoenix32890,
I'm another "old timer" too! Been on Abuzz before a2k, and have had the privilege of having met many. I'm pretty active - probably about the same over the years. To me, it seems much longer than 13 years.

9/14/02 is my official join date, but that's actually from the date that the site was called Able2know. It was actually, originally, called Abenuts (this is the truth), and the name was changed with the purchase of the A2K domain and Robert modifying the original forum software (and it's been overhauled quite a few times since then). So it says 9/14 but the reality is that I'm from August of 2002. ehBeth, Phoenix, roger, ossobucco and Lightwizard (I am undoubtedly missing someone; my apologies to you) also go back to then, as did Robert (as Craven de Kere) of course. We did a lot of beta testing and breaking of the original software (for example, getting a PM used to include a sound file. There were a few; one of them was the old AOL "you've got mail!" sound effect. The sounds rotated randomly. Robert got rid of that fairly quickly as it was (a) annoying and (b) slowing everything down due to the large number of messages flying around).

I joined Abuzz in November of 2000 as I was watching what was going on with the elections and had to talk to someone about it as I couldn't believe what was going on.

The creation of A2K goes to around July or so of '02, when Craven sent me an email and told me he wanted to make a forums website but he didn't feel like dealing with the people. Would I do that? And I said sure, thinking it would be maybe 2 months and 20 people. He sent me back an email confirming it, saying we would be creating an unholy alliance (I recall this term rather vividly). And here we are, a decade and over 200k members later.
