yeah, I will just eat the box..but still...I think you've got this figured out...kewl.

pink-o hippie cereal??? Gosh...I only do the Lucky Charms for snacks since I cant do cereal with milk. Does pink-o hippie cereal work for snacks?? Wink

So, I take my calcium (in one way or another) with my meals -- especially those with iron. And limit my VitC with the same.

Thats easy to remember even.

Thanks

1 cup chopped raw broccoli has 42.2 mg of calcium and only .7 mg of iron (about the same as in 1 beef hotdog).

1 cup raw spinach has 29.7 mg Ca and .8 mg Fe.

Aside from meat (some has more iron than others, another major source of iron comes from beans and nuts (nuts also have lots of calcium).

Meaty stuff with lots of calcium - meat cuts that are close to the bone like chicken breast and spareribs and crustaceans and fish

Sure thing Q, I love figuring this stuff out. Hope I don't say the wrong thing. Can the Doc refer you to a nutritionist?

I was just thinking about becoming a nutritionist as I went through my files on food composition. It's got to make better money than childcare.

Leeches - you need leeches....and they are back in use!

Still, go wade in a stagnant pond, it is probably cheaper...

Doesn't eating spinach use up iron in the digestion, or something, or is that calcium??????? Dammit!

I suspect that there ARE foods that block iron uptake - or vitamins and such that we need in order to metabolise it.

Could you check with a doctor/nutritionist/naturopath?

You can't be THAT taken with the cereal, or whatever it is!!!!!

Toss the cereal.

I've read about people with this syndrome. It's nothing to mess around with.

I can remember the first time I read about this - close to 40 years ago in a Reader's Digest article. Scared me big then. It still makes me very uneasy. That blood/brain crossover thing is quite real and very serious. Hie yer butt to a nutritionist and don't mess anymore with the cereal.

k-what Im saying is that if you can learn plate tectonics..Chemistry..pah! Anywya..you do this stuff already..continue on..you'll have one client already Smile

dlowan..you know..the stagnant pond thing is a fine idea, in fact I think theres one or more out in the middle of nowhere I could find.
As far as the cereal goes...yes, you can be taken by the wee people---they are very powerful. Wink

Seal-Im not rusting YET--just a bit squeeky

EhBeth-yes, I probably will have to toss the cereal--right after I finish this box...sniff...no more Lucky Charms for moi. So Sad.
Ive heard things here and there about it, and I remember a guy growing up who got really sick after taking iron suppliments so, its something to keep in mind.
I would think though, that if it was more serious I would know about it, and finding out all this stuff, well I can at least stop it from getting any worse.

Just eat the damn Lucky Charms. You're going to keel over anyway, might as well eat what you want.

I really am surprised, especially considering the amount of coffee you drink. You could alway just drink that OJ with calcium added, getting everything you need and zeroing out the iron issue.
