Sawyer asked Giffords if she was ever angry about what happened to her. Giffords replied, "No, no, no. Life, life."

Quote:
Then Giffords, looking directly at Kelly, responds almost in a whisper: "Tough, tough, tough" and she kissed his bald head.

Quote:
. She spoke in a clear voice, but in halting phrases: "Pretty good ... Difficult ... Strong, strong, strong," she replied to questions about how she was feeling and how she'd fared over the 10 months since the shooting.

Quote:
Yes, yes, yes," Giffords replied.

Quote:
No. Better," she said in response to a question about whether she wanted to return to Congress

Can we PLEASE get these people a voice in Washington? How long are we supposed to wait to see if this womans brain will ever rewire effectively before we move on? We Americans have let our victim fetish get so bad that we are pathetic.

@hawkeye10,
Who are "we"? The people of AZ-08 have an option to recall their representative if they feel the need to do so. I don't see how this is any of "our" concern.

Since when can voters recall a US congressperson before the end of their term?

I must had missed that when I was reading the constitution the last time.

@hawkeye10,
If I were in AZ-08, I think this would be a fair question but I'm not sure of what the mechanism to remove a Congresswoman is other than the ballot box. Strom Thurmond was not all there but still held his office with the consent of his constituents. I think as long as her constituents are ok with it, we don't get a say.

@JPB,
I had no clue off hand who Jefferson happen to be but I doubt if he held a federal office instead of a state or local office.

Not the same thing at all.

@engineer,
The congressional leadership could act and find her unfit to hold office but no one else can.

@JPB,
Jefferson was not recalled, he was voted out of office in 2008. Jefferson is the Congressman the FBI raided who had thousands of dollars in bribe money in his freezer. His successor, a Republican, was the target of a recall election but the La Supreme Court said there was no standing for the state to recall a federal official.

Last time I looked the victim fetish was so strong that no one of quality of either party will run against her, that everyone is waiting for what is left of her to decide if she wants the office that she is not able to perform next term, and if she does she will run unopposed....

That is FUCKED. UP!

Those poor victims in AZ-08! Surely some representative from another district will feel sorry for them and vote twice.

the solution provided for in the Constitution is for the House membership to decree that this office is empty, and to then have the state send somebody to take possession of it. Some leadership from the alleged House Leadership would be a good place to get the ball moving. If the people of the state of Arizona want to keep her employed even though she cant work then let them make a sham job for her on the Arizona books, this office is too important to use for that charity work. We Americans should not tolerate the mis-use of the office of Representative of the Arizona 8th Congressional District, we have the ability and the duty to run an intervention here.

Why are you so concerned about this, hawk? Do you live in Arizona and feel under-represented or unrepresented?

Once we allow this then we have no grounds to object when others go without representation in our democracy. We must always be on guard for the attempts to subvert our democracy, and depriving citizens of their representation is one of the most well tread routes for doing so. It is also a showing of gross disrespect for Congress, which should not go without challenge.

Congresswoman Giffords' Congressional office has been very productive in the last 311 days for her constituents, probably more so than most of Congress has been in those same 311 days.

@Butrflynet,
I am gratified that the bureaucracy that is her office is still functioning in her absence, but she is absent.....she is not in Washington, she is not meeting with constituents, she is so far as I know not proposing or signing onto legislation, she is not advocating for her district as proven by the fact that she cant really talk....and the clincher is that she is not representing her district on legislation moving through the chamber except for one vote in the last almost 320 days.

This district does not have representation. They need to get some. We can make whom ever is running the office and getting all this stuff done the representative if that is what Arizona wants to do, but let's end the charade. Please. Thank you.

Once we allow this then we have no grounds to object when others go without representation in our democracy.

The people of her district apparently feel they are represented sufficiently. It's one thing to complain that people do not have a means to be represented or that their representation has been suborned, another to say that you don't like how they have chosen to be represented. The folks of AZ-08 have mechanisms to redress any lack of representation and they don't seem to share your concern. Your passion might be better directed at attempts around the country to suppress voter turnout through voter id laws. Those are direct attempts at discouraging representation in our democracy.

@engineer,
Their being apparently fine with it does not excuse either their bad behavior nor that of the House of Representatives.
