@BillRM,
So, because you've decided that you can't win an argument about the rights of paedophiles and rapists, you've decided to talk about our gun laws and some fictional belief of yours that we cannot own knives. I have plenty of knives, and knives serve a practical purpose. If you're going to cook properly you need knives.

You really do have **** for brains.

@izzythepush,
Would you like me to post one news story after another from the British press as how the good doctors wished to take large kitchen knives away from the public?

Are you so dishonest and stupid you are of the opinion that you can denial this movement when anyone can google it in a few seconds?

Second as you are of the opinion that the public should not be able to had a large percent of porn as it might drive someone to murder why would you wish a tool that does harm and kill many men and women every year in the hands of the public?

To me you should be with the good doctors in wishing to do away with large knives.

Oh once more are you going to keep trying to dismiss this movement as not having happen or not being serous so I can ram the news stories down your dishonest British throat?

@BillRM,
So doctors should not be allowed to express opinions?

You're probably not aware of this, but if a doctor says something, that does not make it the law. We have a thing called Parliament for that.

Izzy, you must have a lot of time on your hands, and/or really enjoy typing... these bozos that you are crossing swords with are well known on Able2know for being argumentative brain dead tossers with a toxic streak of right wing American "LIbertarianism" thrown in to their idiotic troll-type mentality. Don't waste your time. That's what they want.

@izzythepush,
Yes and your parliament is deeply concern about all the crime that is happening with special note of gang members and even non-gang members young people carrying knives around with them to a degree that no one in the US could begin to understand.

All kind and type of knives and such things as swords are outlaw and you are not allow to buy edge weapons of the type no American would give a second thought about buying or owning.

Now to get back to kitchen knives they had not been outlaw as the good doctors had ask for but you are in the process of having such knives without points on them as they are being redesign to be most less of a possible weapon.

Whatever happen to the must more crime free England of the past that Americans had always been use to thinking of in relationship to the UK?

It would seems from the UK government reports you had more of your young people carrying deadly weapons around with them then we do and within 15 feet or so a knife is every bit as deadly as a firearm if not more so.

Home Affairs Committee - Seventh Report
Knife Crime

19. There appears to be a need for better enforcement of current legislation regarding the sale of knives. The voluntary charter initiated by the Safer Southwark Partnership with retailers in the London borough appears to have been successful in reducing underage knife sales. We therefore support the Government's similar national campaign with retailers. We also support efforts to design a kitchen knife with a shorter point, although note that it would take a number of years to achieve a big reduction in the number of traditional kitchen knives in circulation unless there was an incentive for people to replace their current knives. (Paragraph 97)

Ban on samurai swords becomes law

Exemptions exist for antique sword collectors
Legislation against selling, making, hiring or importing samurai swords in England and Wales has come into force.

Those breaking the law face six months in jail and a £5,000 fine. Carrying a sword in public is already illegal.

Exemptions will cover swords which are used for re-enactments or antique weapons kept on display by collectors.

Eight years ago a councillor was killed by a man wielding a samurai sword in the office of Cheltenham Liberal Democrat MP Nigel Jones.
Anyone found guilty of importing samurai swords will face up to seven years in prison and an unlimited fine.

'Cheap reproductions'

Samurai swords are part of Japanese history and genuine artefacts can change hands for large sums of money.

But in recent years there has been a trade in reproductions which can be bought over the internet for as little as £35 and they have been used in several attacks.

This ban is part of our wider strategy to tackle serious violent crime

Vernon Coaker
Last month a gang of youths, one armed with a samurai sword, attacked a 15-year-old boy in Newry, County Down.

On another occasion, a youth was seen brandishing a sword in Newcastle.

Chris James, who deals in antique military items, including Japanese swords, told the BBC he welcomed the legislation.

He said: "I don't have a problem with it if it stops youths getting hold of cheap reproductions."

Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker said: "The government takes violent crime very seriously and we are determined to do all we can to protect individuals and communities.

Consultation

"Having undertaken a wide consultation we recognise that it is the cheap and easily available samurai swords that have been used in crime. That is why we have made sensible exemptions for genuine enthusiasts.

"This ban is part of our wider strategy to tackle serious violent crime. Later this year we will launch a new advertising campaign aimed at preventing young people carrying knives."

In 2000 MP Nigel Jones survived a samurai sword attack
A Home Office spokeswoman said the government had consulted collectors and martial arts groups as well as laws enforcement agencies.

Swords aged over 100 years will be exempt from the law, and defences will be in place for crown functions, museums and drama productions.

Alf Hitchcock, of the Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo), said: "Throughout the consultation process the Association of Chief Police Officers has supported the government's position on the banning of samurai swords.

The introduction of a ban is much needed.

Alf Hitchcock, Acpo
"As I have said on previous occasions, these are not the most common weapons for people to carry and use in violent crimes but nationally there have been some significant incidents, serious assaults and murders using a samurai sword.

"So we feel the introduction of a ban is much needed."

Currently 17 weapons, including knuckle dusters and batons are on the Offensive Weapons Order, which was created by the Criminal Justice Act 1988.

@contrex,
You're quite right mate, although to be fair Dave is quite consistent in his approach. Bill's approach changes depending on the point he is arguing. When he's talking about WW2 he refuses to acknowledge any contribution made by the UK, retreating into some fantasy where the 12th Cavalry comes riding to our rescue. Then lo and behold he starts to mention the contribution of Alan Turing in some bizarre effort to prove his point about 'perverts.'

He requires impirical evidence before he will even consider the possibility that there might be some point to our existence, but is quite willing for a man to be executed on the say so of a jury when there is unexamined DNA evidence that could prove his innocence. He goes on about freedom of speech (or should that be freedom of grunts) but only if it agrees with his primitive views. He attacks our laws regarding guns, swords and violent pornography, but cannot comprehend why our homicide rates are much lower than those in the USA. He can't get over the fact that we're a sovereign nation, and as such don't have to pay any attention to some lowbrow, grunting, atavistic, proto-hominid. He needs to get back in his tyre.

You lying Brit shame on you!!!!!!!!!~

Let see I had already given your countrymen credit for your advance knowledge of microwaves technology [cavity magnetron] that you share with us as in very high freq radar and code breaking even if you assholes drove one of the best code breakers/computer pioneers into suicide after the war because of him being gay and let see you was second only to the Germany in jet aircraft technology.

I am not sure but I think it was your technology that allow for the proximity fuze with special note of it usefulness in anti aircraft shells.

You can not win by attacking positions I had taken so you had to created them out of thin air it would seems.

We as in the US supply you with the abilities to go on fighting at great cost to ourselves with special note of the men and ships we lost maintaining your Atlantic life line just to start with.

Without us you could never had held out against the Germans for that reason alone!!!!!!!!

Never mine all the others ways we help win the war that could not had been won without us.

@contrex,
It nice that your scientists was helpful in the atom bomb research but there is no question that the US was fully able to develop the weapon without your help and it is annoying to know that one of the biggest channel of secrets to the Russians came by way of the British scientists working on the project.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Allan Nunn May – A British citizen, he was one of the first Soviet spies uncovered during the cold war. He worked on the Manhattan Project and was betrayed by a Soviet defector in Canada. His was uncovered in 1946 and it led the United States to restrict the sharing of atomic secrets with Britain. On May 1, 1946, he was sentenced to ten years hard labour. He was released in 1952, after serving six and a half years.[9]

Klaus Fuchs – German refugee and theoretical physicist who worked with the British delegation at Los Alamos during the Manhattan Project. After Fuchs' confession there was a trial that lasted less than 90 minutes, Lord Goddard sentenced him to fourteen years' imprisonment, the maximum for violating the Official Secrets Act. He escaped the charge of espionage because of the lack of independent evidence and because, at the time of the crime, the Soviet Union was not an enemy of Great Britain.[2] In December 1950 he was stripped of his British citizenship. He was released on June 23, 1959, after serving nine years and four months of his sentence at Wakefield prison. He was allowed to emigrate to Dresden, then in the German Democratic Republic.[3][4]

@BillRM,
You mean you made a quick buck. America's neutrality meant your ships were unmolested. Up until Pearl Harbour it was the Canadian and British seamen who lost their lives in the Atlantic.

You're really grasping at straws with Churchill, so what if his mother was American, he wasn't brought up as an American. I see you're drinking again, I'd be careful. You've not got a lot of brain cells left.

@izzythepush,
History is never as simple minded as you seems to be Izzythepush.

You might wish to check your facts/opinions before posting your nonsense.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Atlantic_(1939%E2%80%931945)

By 1941, the United States was taking an increasing part in the war, despite its nominal neutrality. In April 1941 President Roosevelt extended the Pan-American Security Zone east almost as far as Iceland. British forces occupied Iceland when Denmark fell to the Germans in 1940; the U.S. was persuaded to provide forces to relieve British troops on the island. American warships began escorting Allied convoys in the western Atlantic as far as Iceland, and had several hostile encounters with U-boats. A Mid-Ocean Escort Force of British, and Canadian, and American destroyers and corvettes was organized following the declaration of war by the United States.

In June 1941, the U.S. realized the tropical Atlantic had become dangerous for unescorted American as well as British ships. On May 21, the SS Robin Moor, an American vessel carrying no military supplies, was stopped by U-69 750 miles (1,210 km) west of Freetown, Sierra Leone. After its passengers and crew were allowed thirty minutes to board lifeboats, U-69 torpedoed, shelled, and sank the ship. The survivors then drifted without rescue or detection for up to eighteen days. When news of the sinking reached the U.S., few shipping companies felt truly safe anywhere. As Time magazine noted in June 1941, "if such sinkings continue, U.S. ships bound for other places remote from fighting fronts, will be in danger. Henceforth the U.S. would either have to recall its ships from the ocean or enforce its right to the free use of the seas."[31]

@izzythepush,

U.S. Warship USS Reuben James Sunk by German U-boat 115 Killed 5 Wks BEFORE Pearl Harbor!

In March 1941, the American destroyer USS Reuben James (DD 245) joined the convoy escort force that was established at Hvalfjordur, Iceland to escort British convoys from Canadian ports as far as Iceland, where the convoys were taken over by British escorts.

At 08.34 hours on 31 Oct., 1941, a German U-boat (U-552) fired a spread of two torpedoes at the USS Reuben James (LtCdr H.L. Edwards, USN). both torpedoes hit the ship.

When the USS Reuben James was hit, it was in the process of escorting the convoy HX-156 in the US Escort Group 4.1.3 together with with USS Benson (DD 421), USS Hilary P. Jones (DD 427), USS Niblack (DD 424) and the USS Tarbell (DD 142).

The ensuing explosions broke the USS Reuben James in two. The forward section sank immediately with all hands while the stern remained afloat for five minutes. When the stern sank the unsecured depth charges exploded killing some survivors in the water.

The USS Niblack (DD 424) picked up 36 men (one of them died of wounds on 2 November) and USS Hilary P. Jones (DD 427) picked up ten more, but all officers were lost.

The destroyer USS Reuben James (DD 245) was the first warship of the US Navy lost in the Second World War. The ship was sunk on Oct. 31, 1941, 5 weeks before Pearl Harbor (Dec. 7, 1941).
