Black rapist. Race of his elderly victims censored.
At the protest hearing, held at the Decatur Correctional Center, Assistant State’s Attorney Elizabeth Dobson told two board members that one of the victims was 87 when Jones raped her in her home. The other woman was 88.
“They both were brutalized by Oscar Lee Jones,” Dobson said, adding that they were tied up after the attacks. One woman was found by family members, while the other untied herself and sought help at a nearby church.
The victims were randomly selected by Jones, who saw them alone outside their homes. Jones hit one of the victims on the head several times, breaking her glasses.
A third elderly woman was choked, molested and almost raped by Jones during a home invasion. He apparently was dissuaded from raping her because of her colostomy bag.
A daughter of one of the victims, now in her 80s, wrote: “He needs to stay in the pen the rest of his life. He will come out and do the same to some other poor ladies.”
She recalled that she and her sons, who were visiting from Texas,
found her mother, “setting on the dining room floor. He had tied her legs up around her head, her arms were behind her, her mouth was stuffed with a rag … Her face was bruised and beat, she looked so sad.”
At Jones’ 1978 sentencing hearing, a Macon County Jail inmate testified that Jones and another inmate had repeatedly sodomized him two days earlier.
