@ehBeth,

I loved Al Hirt and was really thrilled whenever I got to hear him in person.

At one point, in one performance, he suddenly appeared about 12 to 15 feet from where I was seated and let loose with his horn---OMG, the sound permeated every cell in my body, it was fantastic. Very Happy

Thanks for suddenly reminding me about that.

And that reminds me of how much I loved Maynard Ferguson--what an exciting sound. Oh those trumpets. Those were the days.

It was 1967 or maybe it was 68. It doesn't matter. The bus came to a stop, I got off and crossed the parking lot to the donut shop where I selected a couple of donuts and sat there chewing them to oblivion while sipping a rather dreadful iced tea. Tepid, nearly bland other than the ugly stabbing of lemon.

"How did it come to this?", I asked myself as the roar of jet engine pierced through the late afternoon clouds.

With no answer forthcoming, I got another donut and a cup of coffee.

Well, summer seems to be trying to hang on--the temperature here, tomorrow and Monday, is predicted to be in the mid-80's. Maybe that's Summer trying to get the last word. Smile
